From Fort Mill, South Carolina Carolina_Reaper_pepper_pods.jpg 1,569,300 Scoville Heat units! The previous record was held by Naga Bhoot Jholokia peppers from Nagaland, which averaged 1,000,000 SHUs. In comparison, Jalapenos are ~ 5000 SHUs, Thai green chiilies (which are most common in Indian cooking) are ~ 50,000 SHUs and orange habaneros are 150,000 SHUs. There is a local ice cream joint here in North Carolina that serves a habanero ice cream. They grind habaneros in with the ice cream while its churning. It's called "Exit Wound" and you have to sign a waiver form before you can buy it. I could manage half a small cup. Not worth the pain!!

Indian ones are natural. This one is probably GM. Cheaters.
(0) Hope you're kidding. If not: (1) BS. This was generated by selective breeding, just like all other pepper varieties. There are no GM peppers in the market. If it was GM, it would have to pass stringent regulations before being available on the market (see below). (2) And BTW, GM is as natural as selective breeding, except that it takes 13 years and $100+ million to get a GM variety approved for planting. Selectively bred varieties, OTOH, are not regulated at all.
