I understand your frustration but for this debacle selectors and MSD should be blamed not Yuvi. This smacked of sentimental pick that has come back to haunt Ind. Man showed great character and courage to come back from his illness. But professional sport and emotions should never be mixed. The main reason is not loss but the way Yuvraj lost it for India. It clearly looks someone delibirately loss it.It is not different from match fixing. India could had got out on 50 and SL could have this by 1o wickets. I would had accepted this a bad day for India , but here we werelooking good by 15 over and by the time of 20 overs we all lost it , Thanks to selfish Innings by Yuvraj

Instead of blaming the BCCI, selectors, and all & sundry for the loss maybe we can focus on the match that was played where Yuvraj pottered around for 21 balls to score 11 at a SR of 52 with 0 4s and 0 6s, and that too at the death. In this case it was Yuvraj who made the biggest difference to the result of the match.

Maybe he shouldn't have been but at the very least he should have tried to help the team. He basically ate 21 balls and killed the innings. Selectors can't be blamed for that. If you can't score at least try to hit out or get out but he didn't even do that. Again selectors didn't do so and neither did selectors force him to play defensive shots for 0 runs towards the end of the innings. I'm sorry, no matter how poor the selectors were for picking Yuvraj but today's epic innings is on Yuvraj alone.

Agree 100% with the OP. He should never have been selected for this tournament and sending him ahead of Raina was a joke. Yuvraj did not bat slowly on purpose, he was just out of nick. The amount of stick he has been getting is ludicrous.

I will place the blame in the following order Yuvi > Dhoni > Team Management > Selection. Honestly if he hadn't played the way he played today, even a golden duck. I would have had him in the next LOI team. He is real match winner that it is difficult to not to include him. He was recently doing good in Domestic matches. You got to play him in the eleven, even though his form has been dodgy as I can't see another person in the squad who can replace him in the position he plays. The problem is the order in which he comes. Sending him before Raina is a decision based on instinct and not logic. He could have cost us the game against the WI, thankfully he got out in time for Raina to save us. The only game he got going was the dead rubber against Aus, even there he took his time before launching. If there was one thing we didn't have today, it was "time". Raina had showed us repeatedly that he can get going in no time. But Dhoni and Team management failed to learn. I am not saying this as an afterthought, as soon as nohit got out and yuvi was on the way to take strike I questioned the decision, so did many ICFers. On current form the decision as to who should have come was a no brainier. But not for Yum Ess Dhoni. He is riding on luck and gut instinct for long. Finally, after all the mistakes have been made everything wasn't lost. It was up-to the man with the bat in his hand to prove us wrong. He might not have been able to do that. But the way he disgraced himself by hanging on to his dear wicket when India so desperately needed to up the ante is beyond me. He refused singles and doubles to save his skin and hog the strike. I still can't believe what I saw. You can fail yourself that is fine. But failing your teammates is not.

I dont think Yuvraj can escape blame ... he is a very experienced cricketer who knew what was expected of him. Even if he couldn't hit boundaries he should have done a better job rotating strike.

I agree with the op.Selectors are at major fault he was reaaly terrible against aus on flat tracks,It was not his runs but he was getting beaten for pace which was never the case earlier and dhoni for being nostalgic.

This. Exactly my thoughts when he was rushed into the team, soon after the treatment process. And perhaps because of the 'inevitable' failure that followed, it has affected his morale significantly. Which is kind of evident from his body language - the nervousness he has been displaying ever since, is hard to miss.
