It will be pointless to have semi finals and finals if they aren't going to be knock outs. Just play a league then and declare the toppers as the winners. :dontknow: The winner of a world tournament shouldn't deserve the cup just because they were consistent during the league phase. If they don't have it in them to qualify for the knock outs and win the knock outs, then they don't deserve it.

In world tournaments,best of 3 is not the way to go.....You are Expected to bring in your A game to a final,if you choke or have an off day then bad for you. If anything the D/L or rain rule has to be changed to make sure all deserving teams are in the knock outs. In Soccer there has never been an undeserving winner in a WC,there has never been a fluky grand slam winner, and I will say right now in cricket too every team that has won a major tournament thoroughly deserved it but stupid political issues and D/L puts a stigma on the winners or teams that over-achieved which is not fair. In 96,SL won the WC fair and square but a couple of teams boycotted their games due to political reasons....similarly in 2003 Kenya and Zim sneaked in to the next round due to the same boycott B.S Pak's 92 victory and SL current T20 WC win will have a lot of woulda,coulda shoulda due to the stupid D/L rule. No I am not advocating they are undeserving,they thoroughly deserved the win by outplaying the opponent and bringing in their A Game but some rules and situations need to be avoided in major tournaments

Great Hungry team of Puskas should have won 1954 World Cup Final against the Germans and the Dutch team should have won 1974 World Cup. Portugal should have won Euro 2004 Final against boring Greece on home soil. Liverpool's greatest footballing side of 1988 should have won FA Cup Final against Wimbledon and completed traditional double of League and FA Cup. Man City should have won FA Cup Final last year against Wigan who relegated from EPL to Championship.

There is some merit to it, but then we have to change whole structure, losing semi finals after winning every match is also unfair. There should be round robin group stage and follow IPL rules for playoffs.that is most fair way to determine the winner. that way fluky teams don't end up beating best team of tournament ala 1992.
