he played perfect role against SA game.. problem is we dont play much T20I so we dont have much to experiment and create pool of players.. At least he is better than Dhawan though..
how come ?even out of form dhawan managed to score 30 off 28 against pak.

Yeah right. Someone else scored the runs for him in IPL and CLT20.
S/R of 105 in ipl 2013 @ avg 34 dhawan, rohit, virat, raina all have better avg @ better s/r same is the case in champions league

yep...even sluggish dhawan hammered 96 against lanka in asia cup......should hav played in knock outs
dhawan is a match winner. An in form dhawan is next only to virat in the current team.

27 ODI matches at an average of 25 and Strike rate of 72. Clearly struggling in this format. How many more chances would you give him instead of someone who could do use the chances and get settled in the side ? Manoj Tiwary should get selected next. Pujara or Kedhar Jadhav could also be given chances. Gambhir could make a comeback. The worst thing is not to give enough opportunities to others and still keep selecting Rahane, so others wont get a chance.
Now that i look at the stats, maybe rahane needs to be dropped from one of t20s or odis. I like that he is determined to score runs everywhere and in all formats but where we have better calibre players for those formats, they should play. Deffo manoj tiwary should play odis. jadhav another good one to try. we won't know till we try. Gotta mix things up. Yuvraj, rahane, even dhawan out from t20s. dhawan is a gun player in odis and tests so keep him there. Get guys like uthappa, m tiwary, jadhav, agarwal and see how it goes. Pujara for odis definitely.

Rahane played better against SA... And just by looking at Dhawan's innings, he is technically lacks in skills.. looks total hack.. he should be dropped from test as well.. And before someone brings up Champions trophy stats, i gotta say that he gave lot of chances to fielding team that were missed. Dhawan will score runs once in 5 innings on foreign pitches.. he'll still score in bunch in sub-continet but he'll be a burden outside of it.

Rahane with all his superior technique averaged 10 in ODI series against NZ. while out-of-form dhawan with all his weakness against short ball averaged 20. Asia cup dhawan scored 94 against srilanka,50+ vs afghan while rahane scored 2 50s against ban,afg

Reg. that innings against SA even after looking so good he managed to score just 32 off 30 when we were chasing 170+ even sluggish dhawan scored 30 off 28 when we were chasing 130 against pak

As a massive fan of Gambhir, I can tell that he isn't yet ready for a comeback in ODIs. Although I strongly back him as our opener in Australia, where he's done extremely well. Dhawan should be given a series or two in ODIs, but with Pujara and not Rohit. We saw a different Dhawan when he opened with Rahane. Left-Right opening combination is a massive advantage and thanks to the lack of singles from Rohit, we never utilise it. Pujara is a must in the opening slot along with Dhawan.

I dont know if you are aware or not.. but Rahane's job was not to go after bowling from the word go.. he was to give a stable opening so middle order can build on it... Also, in Asia cup and against NZ, you gotta be aware of that Rahane was coming in middle order when top order regularly collapsed.. so middle order was constantly under pressure.. My take is that Rahane is not suited for ODI/T20, but he is still much better pick than Dhawan.. he is more reliable than Dhawan.. specially in foreign conditions.

Dont know why Dhawan is being rated so high when he is failing innings after innings..

stable opening...32(30) when we were chasing 170+ in 20 overs ...oh wait...And how many times did he give us stable opening ? if he cannot perform under pressure he isn't good enough to be in playing XI ...and avg of 10 is not at all acceptable. And the game against srilanka in asia cup it wasn't even a collapse...AFAIK he came at arnd 130/2 ...still... Not to mention the game against pak even rayudu looked better than him

because he won us many games...Rahane after playing 28 ODI innings has just one match winning innings

I don't particularly favor Dhawan. I want an aggressive opener to partner Pujara. He is aggressive and a left hander which is a massive asset to have in ODIs. If that's not the case, we could open with a moderate (mindset) player like Gambhir and Pujara, but need a squash buckling tonker at #4 with Dhoni at #5.

I want someone who will be able to clear the ropes at his will. I would say even Kohli is not in the league of berserk hitters. We are very lucky to have a classy batsman who will score with a SR over 100. But still even Kohli is not the typical Sehwag kind of guy who can make the ball fly from the first over onwards. What hurts me more is, nowadays almost every team has a hitter at the opening slot. I accept most of those hitters are not consistent but 45/1 after 5 overs is better for me than 45/0 after 10 overs and occasionally with such hitters we can even get 90/1 at the end of 10th over which means we have already pocketed the match.
