Rahane.. Not a T20 player

I don't know why people are ignoring his innings.. Again we are confusing the formats here... Players like him are not made for limited internationals ... Rahane is a test player and he should stick to that... International cricket is not your IPL with flat and fast outfields... Yes Yuvraj was the biggest reason why we lost, but 2nd biggest culprit IMO was Rahane. .... Only useful in first 6 overs and later doesn't have strength to fours or sixes....He did something similar in the Asia Cup final as well.. played his stupid defensive game and didn't up the ante when the time came... 0.2 Kulasekara to Rahane, no run, now bowls the outswinger and this is wide outside off, teasing the batsman, but Rahane lets it go through 0.3 Kulasekara to Rahane, no run, now this one tails in, smart bowling from Kula. Rahane gets solidly behind it and defends to off 0.5 Kulasekara to Rahane, no run, keeps it outside off and gets this one to dart away a touch, the batsman plays a loose punch as is beaten 1.1 Mathews to Rahane, no run, just back of length outside off, Rahane looks to steer it to the off side but chops it down near the stumps 1.2 Mathews to Rahane, no run, he comes forward and defends the length delivery to cover He is not a long term solution for our T20s and ODIs.. Another Rohit Sharma in making who is gonna suck the momentum away

The guy has no stroke making ability. No power whatsover. Looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
He's not a T20 player, but its naive to say he has no stroke making ability.

Also, he was in the top 3 or 5 highest runs scorer in the last IPL, and top 10 in 2012. But, in the Indian team, he is not the sort of opener we can afford.

Also' date=' he was in the top 3 or 5 highest runs scorer in the last IPL, and top 10 in 2012.[/quote'] Not good enough in LOI's period......I thought he will fail at the test level too due to his inability against genuine pace, but good on him proved me wrong but yes should never play LOI's again. Dhawan is a better ODI player and need to get someone else in T20

Yeah right. Someone else scored the runs for him in IPL and CLT20.
Going by that logic, the captain who won both IPL and CPLT20 should be the T20I captain :P

He can tuk-tuk and take his time to settle down, and then keep scoreboard slowly ticking, and occasional classical shots for runs. Will be good in Test format. Keep him for that format only.

His strike rate is 72 which is just pathetic!! Check out the last match he played http://www.espncricinfo.com/asia-cup-2014/engine/match/710301.html Sorry, in no way you can justify his 23 (50) innnings that he recently made in India vs Pakistan in Asia Cup.. I can see various Yuvraj type of innnings where we might end up loosing the tournament cuz of him in 50 overs..

he played perfect role against SA game.. problem is we dont play much T20I so we dont have much to experiment and create pool of players.. At least he is better than Dhawan though..

No he doesn't deserve a spot as of now.....I agree with you man....but he has the tools to be in the scheme of things in the future

27 ODI matches at an average of 25 and Strike rate of 72. Clearly struggling in this format. How many more chances would you give him instead of someone who could do use the chances and get settled in the side ? Manoj Tiwary should get selected next. Pujara or Kedhar Jadhav could also be given chances. Gambhir could make a comeback. The worst thing is not to give enough opportunities to others and still keep selecting Rahane, so others wont get a chance.
