G_B_ Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 It really isnt. The penetration is so less becoz they are poor and illiterate.Opening bank accounts dont change that . The same Pradhan Mantri scheme was during Congress time as well.Did u see that bring votes for them? These are very useful stuff in the long run to bring transperasncy and reduce corruption but they dont bring votes or goodwill Obviously Modi is not just going to campaign on that. There are a slew of measures which he has undertaken. His speeches last for 30 minutes plus. He barely spends 5 min on the bank account thing. I also feel even opening a back account is a big deal for a poor and illiterate person. It paves away to getting a soft loan. Which that person can use for say farming or even getting an education. You gain confidence in using the financial system. Its also crucial for women. In rural maharashtra it was always a problem whereby women used to get paid daily and would get beaten up by their alcohol abusing husbands. Bank accounts really did help them stash their money in a safe place their husbands could not reach. This scheme was started by Sharad PAwar. To be fair all the accounts were in cooperative banks and open to serious abuse. But the idea behind opening a bank account for a big hit in Maharashtra in the 90s. It really did help the Congress (of PAwar) and NCP (of Pawar) get votes.
asterix Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 He needs to do something about employment generation...opening bank accounts is all ok but he cannot become a broken record on it...
G_B_ Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 He needs to do something about employment generation...opening bank accounts is all ok but he cannot become a broken record on it... Obviously i am not saying that should be the cornerstone of the BJP philosophy. For Bihar i am sure he will announce building infra etc which generates construction jobs for the youth. Bihar is a severely infra deficit state. From dams to roads to power generation. But more than even economy i feel Bihar first needs an iron grip on law and order. That should be the BJP's number 1 agenda. No private entity will invest in a place where jungle raj prevails. Law and order + Infrastructure. That should be the BJP policy.
oneANDone Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Modi has a very tough task ahead. The expectations are HUGE (rupee value, black money issue, honest and transparent governance etc.) if even one of the pillars breaks - judging by the infighting within the Delhi BJP, there will be a lot of guys who will destroy BJP from within. I think it's best for Modi to mellow down the expectations first as their cadre promised everything and anything under the sun to get votes this time around. You seems to be new here... Its not a issue if bjpcon delivers results or not. Bcz they are politicians and its not their duty also. If anything wrong then its all by system and people of India. U cannot account them for promises.
someone Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 With Delhi elections, the idea about BJP vs the rest has official started. So obviously, BJP will look to counter it by adding as many people from the opposition camp in order to decrease their numbers. Honestly, as long as those turncoats aren't offer any sort of guarantee of position or tickets, BJP should look to expand on the numbers and accept them well. I guess that does explain their recent strategy and particular for states like TN where it does not have any existing base.

BeautifulGame Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Good lesson to Shah/Modi . There is a limit to modi wave and state leaders are important .They have to realize that all 4 elections BJP won are with added advantage of anti- incumbency. U can't just drop a leader and force him on the cadres and local leaders .Cutting down Harshavardhan just becoz he isn't in Modi camp isn't any different from Gandhis attitude in Congress And shut the fect the loose cannons inside and outside the party about Hindutva and turn attention toward development. That's what the mandate was for . Hopefully they learn it before the Bihar elections .

Yoda-esque Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Look what consolidated vote share does... Tough time ahead of BJP in other states... 30 vs 70..70 wins
surajmal Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Consolidation of this sort will be far more difficult in ROI. You know one thing that this will do? Force BJP to play the hindutva card even more vigorously. Development doesn't win you elections in the short term. BJP being the largest national party, pretty makes it the establishment. And mango man hates the establishment. It cannot go to the center because that will just make it a Congress clone and people will rather go with the sure thing then the one that is pretending to be center of the spectrum. So the only sure card left is hindutva and voter polarization.

Crookbond Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 He needs to do something about employment generation...opening bank accounts is all ok but he cannot become a broken record on it... Since you seem to be interested in this topic, let me mention some facts based on a white paper by RBI. http://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/Speeches/PDFs/MFI101213FS.pdf + 229M accounts were opened under previous governments under the "Financial Inclusion" initiative. + There was a 2.5 times increase in Basic Saving Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts. BSBD accounts have no minimum balance, deposit and withdrawal of cash at bank branch and ATMs, receipt/ credit of money through electronic payment channels, facility of providing ATM card. [Refer Chart 6] + 3.95M availed the Over Draft facility [Refer Chart 6] + ICT based transactions had almost a 10 times increase between March 2010 and 2013. [Refer Chart 9] Therefore, you can conclude two things - (1) opening of bank accounts was NOT the bottle neck in August 2014 like it was in March 2006 (Financial Inclusion beginnings) and (2) the only additional benefit that PMJDY account provides over previous initiatives is the life insurance. But there are various terms & conditions for life insurance (http://www.licindia.in/pages/PMJDY_Guidelines&Features.pdf) and 70% of the accounts can not avail this insurance (http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2014-11-10/news/55956080_1_in-built-rs-mantri-jan-dhan-yojana-aadhar-linked-accounts). The RBI white paper provides the actual issues for financial inclusion (Refer Table 2) that includes, but not limited to, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Financial Inclusion (92+% have NO finance) and Infrastructure Development. The absence of bank account was hardly an issue and in the PMJDY - we have spent money on something which already exists.

G_B_ Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 The BJP needs to reform its state unit. The BJP has consistently polled in the 30-36% region for the last 20 years. Questions have to be asked as to why this is the case? Every state election the BJP retains its core voters. In 2013 BJP+SAD got 33% in 2015 BJP + SAD got 33%. In the 2014 lok sabha the BJP got 46%. So the question the BJP has to ask is where are the 13-14% voters who backed them in 2014 gone? Obviously the BJP now need a new leader. The aim should be for 40% plus of the vote. The Congress has totally collapsed in the state. This planting of a new leader has to stop and IMO BJP need to project a CM candidate. Joint leadership needs to stop.
