I am writing this after his comments 2 mins ago during the Aus/Lanka Game Ponting came to the field in his tracks and was discussing the situation ( like how long do they have for bowling etc ) Now the umpires were walking towardd the pavilion and ricky was walking backwards while talking to them Class Comment by Ritchie " Ponting might be the 1st Australian Captain walking backwards to the dressing room " :haha: I mean the timing was perfect

exactly.... whenever u watch games happening DownUnder, u would note a huge amount of difference in commentry compare to one in subcontinent.... in subcontinent all are joke exception of EspnStar Team.. which also seems to be a bit overated.. all these ten sports team and all are joke.. and then we have indeedz and surelyz...

It is not very difficult to see why. Benaud is a voracious reader. You will find ample evidence of that in his books where he is at home quoting Shakespeare as he is Iliad. Richie Benaud works very hard at his job. Before he started his commentating career(which started almost as soon as he was done with his cricket) he spent many a hours at BBC and ABC learning from the gurus. I am not sure about Bill Lawry but wont be surprised if he has underwent the same route. On the other hand the Arun Lals, the Shivas etc are commentating only because: 1) They have played cricket at Test level. 2) They know English. xxx

One of the biggest reasons Aussie team is so good is because their ex-players are one of the most knowledgeable on cricket (far more than the desis) and stay very actively involved with the infrastructure.

..nothing wrong in Gavaskars Commentary. He pulls up archives as well, and I'd love to hear him with Bhogle Benaud has been around and talks about stuff which we normally never heard or read about. I really admire his timely humour
