India hint at five-bowler strategy

Recommended Posts

I find it laughable that suddenly we have a tail that wags. When actual stats show that I believe in last 2 years, we have one of the worst tails in international cricket, in fact stats show it as worst I believe. If suddenly some feel our tail is good and reliable and for that reason we can play 5 bowlers. All I would say is this :hysterical:

Our tail included likes of Zaheer and you have not really shown any stats ..all I remember is ashwin scoring hundreds

Ishant and Shami are pants. BK is ok and may got that odd 20 plus but often will get rolled quick.. Jadeja cant play pace. and overseas at the moment is a walking wicket Dhoni cant play pace and proven failure overseas. Yeah excuse me feeling not that confident in our tail CONSISTENTLY delivering
Don't worry they will still add much more than our so called batting maestro which these tail diners are replacing

So what is your batting order from 6 to 11?
7 to 11 currently but normally 8 and beyond Btw ashwin has scored 500 runs at average of 42 in lower Oder batting in tail position Bhuvi has scored 200 odd runs at average of 36 While old guys like Zaheer has average of 9 while yadav had 4 ...that's why estimating performance of current tail based on older guys is wrong ...and I am not even including jadeja and Binny because if small sample size but for tail they are very respectable And ishant is known to hang around so this tail is anything but weak but yes tail with Zaheer, umesh was much weaker

Sorry I thought u asked me about criteria of stats .... My batting order will be same if track has life for pacers but if turns why not play 2 spinners since we are already playing 3 quicks...but sooner or later as series goes I would like to try 4 real pacers and a spinner and bringing ashwin n and pandey will make it possible as even pandey can slog a few and is not number 11 But really it depends on where we are in series and tracks...you can ask me batting order after I see next track :winky:

Yes,you cannot say based on this test that our tail can wag. Tailendets struggle against either pace and bounce or turn. None of them was there. There was a bit of swing bur ball hardly carried to slips. Moreover, lets worry about 4th bowler first then come to 5th. We dont even have a 4th bowler right now.

I mean, cannot say our tail will wag based on this test. Ashwin isnt a solution for our 4th bowler issue, neither Binny.

For now even same team will do all right in lords ....unless track is completely changed from past years

Binny's Success as a Batsman has got every body confusing... there is one more thought process- Binny the batsman is nearly sure to Suceed in Lords...I guess i would put my money on Binny rather than on DHONI or Jadeja as batsman , i am kinda as sure of him scoring runs in Lords as much as possibly Virat or Pujara... Why- Binny is in the form of his Life in Batting ..like Murli Vijay..even Murli is looking SOLID. Binny scores faster than Murli and if binny is sent ahead of DHONI..even dhoni will score faster as binny will ensure rahane also scores well.... India need to drop the Spinner jadeja and replace him with a GENUINE Pacer now .. i guess england possibly have 4 pacers and INDIA dont( cant count binny as a pacer)..spinner wont suceed - either Jaddu or ashwin. India shud play 4 pacers and one out of ashwin/jaddu or Binny. Binny is in best batting form out of jaddu , ashwin and him...if none of them are likely to suceed as batsman.. india shud play 4 pacers and Binny.... what do u guys SAY???

How does the Indian tail (no 8 and below) compare with other sides? Looked at the data for last 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, home, away, combined, India are not in the bottom half of the sides with least runs. Only SA and Aus have better stats. Last 12 months http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmin1=8;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=team;orderby=batting_average;spanmax2=14+Jul+2014;spanmin2=14+Jul+2013;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Last 12 months away http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmin1=8;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=team;home_or_away=2;orderby=batting_average;spanmax2=14+Jul+2014;spanmin2=14+Jul+2013;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Last 2 years http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmin1=8;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=team;orderby=batting_average;spanmax2=14+Jul+2014;spanmin2=14+Jul+2012;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Last 2 years away http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmin1=8;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=team;home_or_away=2;orderby=batting_average;spanmax2=14+Jul+2014;spanmin2=14+Jul+2012;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Last 3 years http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmin1=8;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=team;orderby=batting_average;spanmax2=14+Jul+2014;spanmin2=14+Jul+2011;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Last 3 years away http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmin1=8;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=team;orderby=batting_average;spanmax2=14+Jul+2014;spanmin2=14+Jul+2011;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Is our tail the worst in the world? Numbers seem to suggest otherwise unless I am missing some key parameter on statguru.

I got to same conclusion ...so I think it's correct data

No it cant. We have the worst tail in international cricket' date=' I thinks stats over last year show this. You think runs scored by our tail on this pathetic track prove anything???[/quote'] True that our tail before this test was pathetic but when zaheer and ishant just lunge at every delivery with no brains, what else will happen? Bhuvi showed some maturity, got some confidence in shami and even guys like aaron can hang in there. Give it another year or end of 2014 to decide how our NEW tail is but dont go by previous player's standards.

Can you please back up the claim with some relevant data, thanks.

Can you please back up the claim with some relevant data' date=' thanks.[/quote'] Just check the scorecards from the SA and NZ tour! Our tail had no backbone with jokers like zak and ishant just poking and edging everything with no intent. Kumar seems to have given the tail some confidence and himself a boost. Why can't we support that? Why do we continue to demand "relevant data" when we should be backing them to do it again and again?

Can you please back up the claim with some relevant data' date=' thanks.[/quote'] Well after 3 years of watching us away from home collapsing like a pack of cards, do you really need data or do you really believe we have some great wagging tail. Now some saying this new tail is gonna be awesome and pile on runs, meaning we only need 5 batsman and can play 5 bowlers. I say hold your horses. Let BK and Shami prove they are this wagging dog, particularly on more tricky tracks(frankly any track they now play on will always be more challenging) before we attempt courageous / suicidal tactics. As if they are not the great tail you espouse, it will end up in some awesome collapses.
