Yaar its very hard to want to bowl flat out fast on some of these Indian wickets. Mark Wood sliding  on to the bat. Almost like cement, net practice.

In 1999, the fastest was Shoaib with 154.x kph and 2nd fastest was Srinath with 149.7 kph.

 

This world cup the bowlers are quicker.

 

In 2003, the speeds were jacked up. Even Nehra, who was usually 136 k to 146 k in his quicker spells, bowled many at 147 k to 149 k.

Atkinson is not a 150 k pacer as was initially marketed by the English.  I saw him bowl 136 k to 146 k in an ODI when he was bowling flat out.

Top fast bowlers learn to be effective in flat batting conditions.  Akram did it. Now Bumrah is doing it. 

 

In the age of T20s, if a bowler can't bowl on flat pitches then he is a misfit for the era. 

 

Pacers like Wood or Rauf can't move the ball much. Wood does not get that much bounce off length either. I don't see great yorkers either.  While Lee and Shoaib could swing the ball at 145 k+ and even 150 k+. Shoaib had a great yorker too.

 

It is not just about bowling quick but about displaying a wide range of skills at high pace.

2003 Had Shoaib and Lee and Bond who was slower than Shoaib and Lee was bowling as quick as Wood here.
