Why can't our spinners take wickets?

Look at a guy like nathan lyon. Has taken wickets everywhere! AUS, SA, England, West Indies, India. How is he able to get wickets yet our spinners can't even buy 1 wicket?! Answer: Hard work! Craft. Skill. Is it that our spinners just dont work hard enough to master the art of taking wickets? Is it the turners at home? Check this out: sSBZrAoDO-U If ashwin could take wickets like that, we would win more matches overseas. Lyon even got some in a SA ODI whereas we had the openers forming 100+ partnerships each game! Credit to lyon for working on his craft. What's the issue?

I think it is because we select our spinners based on whether they can bat. In the end they end up being better batsman but their bowling skills diminishes. Instead choose spinners on their bowling skills & let them develop as bowlers first. There is a great need to really encourage spinners & provide them facilities to improve. The spinners we have today like gopal, kuldeep , gani, karanveer, etc are probably the best in the world when the are compared with other spinners in their age groups. We need better facilities to make them ATG & not impose should bat a bit criteria. For pacers we have Mrf pace academy & NCA but for spinners there's very little facilities out there.

Our spinners rely more on the bounce offered by a combination of the SG ball and Indian pitches. They are not able to extract the same amount of bounce on pitches away from home. They don't turn the ball a long way and hence struggle for wickets.

That is a factor definitely. Kookaburra iespecially. Duke is closer to SG. But having said that how hard it is to practice with Duke or Kookaburra balls. Srilanka did that before the English series. Second factor is drift. Ojha gets some drift. Jadeja or Ashwin both don't get drifts. Murali Karthik actually did well in England because he has good drift. Jadeja just angles it in not lets it hang in the air. Ball has to wobble and hang in the air at the eye level. Lastly very unimaginative field setting given by Captain.

Yeah Lyon gets drift like Swann and not many others do these days. Also he bowls to attack, Ashwin and others don't and if you see the fields they are not defensive, they attack but also give a chance for catches in the deep
