As said earlier, these bypolls has never been significant, it's only the media hyping this time. In state elections, it's the local issues and figures that matter, not center or national figures. Even had BJP done better, it wouldn't have indicated BJP have won. BJP needs to improve to build local leaders, leaders with charisma. Similarly, the "grand" alliance shouldn't take it as a win. Either side can't really be a loser or winner in just bypolls. Nevertheless, the low voter turnout is a critical issue for BJP. In 2014 LS, BJP won on behalf of higher turnout and that should be their targetfor every state or national elections in future. Like, I said earlier as well, BSP, SP didn't really lose their votes share in UP and actually gained more votes in LS 2014 than 2009. But the difference was there were plenty of new votes and majority went to BJP in LS 2014 and that destroyed all the calculations of such vote-bank parties.

Although By elections are never a good indicator. In 2009 LJP+Laaloo-Congress won 11 out of 18. So low turnouts always help Laloo's herd.

there is no doubt that the bjp has grown as a party in general outside its traditional original hunting ground of UP. (ironically where is was nowhere locally) The big question is has it grown enough to to take the Cm chair in bihar.
