sandeep
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is the best ODI bat (maybe IVAR beats him by a shade, but its arguable given the different eras they played in, and the lack of quality opposition for Richards). end of discussion. Instead of trying to manufacture ridiculous statistics about what he hasn't done, please try and come up with another batsman who has performed at his level for 18 years. If you can't do that, then you accept that Tendy is the best. Hari Om.:fight: Link to comment

sandeep
Boss, Let this dude be, there's plenty of his ilk around; stroking their own self-image by holding Tendy to a "higher standard". These kind of arguments are more about their own short-comings than Tendy. Link to comment

Chandan
Statistics are like bikinis' date= what they reveal is suggestive, what they conceal is vital :D I know it sounds apparently contradictory when I voice my opinion of sachin.... but I shall clarify in a few hours ....watch this space Then let me say that being a female fan, the things they reveal aren't suggestive to me at all but what they hide are indeed vital and crucial. Hence I'd prefer to have my own judgements which won't be swayed no matter what stats are presented! Link to comment

Guest dada_rocks
Highly inaccurate stats. Basically means that if SRT scores 140*' date='35,91 and 0 against a McGrath led Australia and gets dismissed by McGrath only once, for example on 0, then his average against McGrath based on the CI stat v bowler would be 0. bharat has already pointed this out.[/quote'] Precisely .u saved my typing time.. in nutshell BS state Link to comment

I'd go as far as to suggest that he's the best ODI player overall when you take things like his bowling into account. He, Gilchrist and Jayasuriya have probably been the most significant ODI players in terms of really revolutionizing the one day game. If you watch a one dayer played back in the 80s, especially one with a team like England, and then watch a random game today, there'll be a huge difference just in the attitude, tactics and the approach taken by the teams - those three players have imo done far more than any others to bring about that change. Statistics will say f*ck all about that at the end of the day. Link to comment
Guest HariSampath
by the way' date=' you still haven't answered me on how you claim sachin to be the "greatest ODI batsman" when he averages between 25 and 39 in 6 test playing countries, over 18 years.....this was something you yourself had said , in the cotext of someone needing to succeed in all conditions to be considered great[/quote'] Bump....answer this Bheem :D Link to comment
The Outsider
Which 6 test playing countries does he average less than 40 in? Australia, NZ, and Pakistan are the only ones I could find with averages of 35, 30, and 37. Except for NZ, none of them would fall into the poor category. 35+ is still quite decent in ODIs. He hasn't played too many ODIs in Pakistan and had a horrendous debut series in ODIs there. Link to comment
