Surrey wanted uthaapa to play full season for surrey in all formats. Rejected by BCCI as apparently this benefits indian cricket

He has played in all their T20s and should play on "Finals Day" this Saturday. He doesn't play four day or 50 over cricket. For what reason I don't know, not in his contract maybe, but that is his choice and his alone. I reckon Surrey would love him for all formats. I must admit, although no great lover of Surrey, I am a fan of Ansari, but their usual method is to sign a big name overseas star or a long standing county pro from elsewhere rather than develop much of their own talent. Or maybe as a Yorkshire supporter I'm spoilt and more used to seeing teams with 9 or 10 players brought through by the county

KP had a county contract with Surrey (4 day format) last year (2013) and I am sure about it because i remember he scored a big hundred. Surrey announced T20 contract with KP for 2014 season. The last i knew was that KP's contract with Surrey would keep going on until he had a central contract with ECB. That or he does not sees a point in playing 4 day now, having realized it's all over for him to make a comeback at the international level, especially under the same administration and also considering he has little time ahead.

He did yes. I also remember his big hundred (or one of them) as it came at Headingley! He came in with Surrey on the ropes and took the game away from us. Just as Luke bloody Wright is doing to us right now As for this year, I think you're spot on with your reason tbh. He has nothing to prove to anyone at the ECB, they all know what he can do but chose to ignore it, and having given so much to the English game for little reward, I don't blame him for 'following the money' and becoming one of these T20 freelance players

and I doubt Robin Uttappa has played enough international cricket to qualify for a work visa. It was a similar case with Rahane if i remember correctly posting at the time. I think you need to play 1 test or 10 ODIs and or 15 T20s in the last two years. Something like that. I dont think Uttappa has met that cirteria unless he has something else in his count like Mayanti being an citizen of the european union. Surrey may have wanted him (lets assume this is true) but the British customs and immigration needs to clear him.

Add to it Sachin played a full season for Yorkshire in 1992.Rahul played a full season for Kent in 2000. Don't remember which year and how many matches Zak played. Murali karthik played couple of seasons at least with Surrey .

yup this all needs to be researched before we can make a comment. Its not so simple as Butcher saying something and it being true. Butcher himself is the brotherin law of alec stewart who runs things at Surrey. He is well informed. so Surrey did probably want Uttappa. Not sure how they would have got him though. they signed smith but he met all criteria, his wife was irish (european citizen) plus he had played plenty of tests.

I also remember Harby playing county cricket, probably for Kent, in last two years. Flopped miserably.

Only going but what shastri said on tv yesterday. That indian players cant play in foreign odi or T20 tournamnets as wont get NOC. That was my mistake listening to shastri:giggle:

T20 is established that the BCCI wont let people participate. ODIs no such issue me thinks. Probably cause the IPL is not an ODI tournament. The problem for Indian players is that NZ, Aus, SA have their domestic seasons the same time as us. Which means our players missing the ranjis. So you have WI and England left. English domestic season spans from April to October. During which April May are lost to the IPL and Sept onwards its champions league.

I dont think counties are keen on signing players midway through county season, even if they do then they would want them to play their t20 league which BCCI is strictly against.
