He should have looked to sign with Gloucestershire or Derbyshire or Worcestershire for a chance to get in the playing 11. However, BCCI should have allowed him so that he could at least get feel of conditions and nets practice in swinging conditions against better pace bowlers. Maybe chances of making playing 11 in 3-4 matches once the main batters are injured or they need a rest.

Neither is it a case of choosing Gloucester or Worcester. Most English counties would greedily take on an Indian player (at a sensible price). The point is that the BCCI is refusing to provide NOCs to Indian players to play anywhere outside BCCI organised or approved tournaments. This goes for first class cricket as well as other domestic T20 tournaments around the world. In any case, English counties know that Indian players come with a high price tag, and they would almost certainly start in the playing XI if only to justify that price tag. Not to mention, Indian players (batsmen) are a big draw in terms of crowds especially in London (Surrey and Middlesex) so they would want to recoup some finances that way by playing them. Anyway Ravi Shastri on a UK talk show last night suggested that the BCCI might change their approach and let Indian players have a crack at county cricket "if their schedules allow it" so we'll have to wait and watch.

As long as don't clash with international cricket then fantastic opportunity for indian player to learn and get BETTER! Yet BCCI says no. Sickening stuff. Again BCCI don't care about indian game and its players but more concenered with its petty power games!

Obviously, with today's schedules, a full season would be next to impossible. It's like me telling my son living in Delhi- "you can go to NY today if you can get back to India in time for dinner" (otherwise, you can't go).

They have a very expensive team, who don't care for four day cricket (sound familiar) This is the county who Graeme Smith retired to sign for and become captain of. Until he got injured, so they just replaced him with Hashim Amla instead. Then he went off to play for SA so: "Oh no, whatever should we do? Give a youngster a chance?" "Heavens old chap, no. Are you mad? We're not Yorkshire you know. We have money so we'll sign that Sri Lankan chap who plays that funny scoop shot instead. He'll be marvellous for the T20 competiton that's coming up" They also have Mr Pietersen, who they also pay big bucks, and allow him to play for whoever he wants around the world as long as he plays a few T20s for them

I can't find a way for Uthappa to play more than 3-4 matches. He has played in all their T20s and should play on "Finals Day" this Saturday. He doesn't play four day or 50 over cricket. For what reason I don't know, not in his contract maybe, but that is his choice and his alone. I reckon Surrey would love him for all formats. I must admit, although no great lover of Surrey, I am a fan of Ansari, but their usual method is to sign a big name overseas star or a long standing county pro from elsewhere rather than develop much of their own talent. Or maybe as a Yorkshire supporter I'm spoilt and more used to seeing teams with 9 or 10 players brought through by the county
