thankgod its page 2 was going to go on an epic rant. For what its worth i think every team does need a medium pacer. They have their uses. However it becomes a problem when out of 3-4 frontline bowlers all of them are trundlers.

Aussies, Eng and great windies side of pervious era managed just fine without a trundler. The opposite is not true though

Never seen a great team without pace bowlers. I have seen great teams without a trundler though!

in the last 3 matches Anderson was pretty quick.Consistently 86-87 mph The only successful trundlers i can recall are McGrath(got good bounce and seam movement though) ,Chaminda Vaas (BK pace but very successful) and Pollock

When he was bowling around 82, he was ineffective. He bowled quicker in last 3 matches and was consistently around 84-85 mph on average. Anderson was never a trundler, started as a 90 mph bowler. Even now, he bowls 88-90 mph whenever he wants to. Regarding trundlers, one must be really skillful to be successful if one is bowling at 80 mph. McGrath Was not a trundler when he started first, used to be fast medium if not fast, but gradually lost pace over the years and he was really good at what he used to do and his height benefited him the most. Same for Pollock.

Which series u watched? Anderson easily went up to 88 miles when needed,in test they conserve energy.Mcgrath with his height and action got zip off the pitch and he was 135+.

Look i am not denying that Anderson did up his pace in phases. But he is not a fast bowler. 82-84 is his range. The only reason he went to 88 cause our batting folded so badly he did not have to bowl long spells. To be fair even Bhuvi was in the 80s on a regular basis. Somebody like Philander is not exactly express pace either.

Vaas's strength was great accuracy and the ball bringing back to the right handers. People think if one is slow, he must be accurate too but that is not the case. Being slow does not automatically makes you accurate and consistent.

Pollock started out as a 90mph bowler. But towards the end of his career was a trundler. The crucial point is that you need a degree of variety in your attack. This is what south africa have they have Philander trundler, they have Morkel hit the deck bowler and they have steyn. all three of these bowlers bring something different to the field of play.

in India yes. In the england series he was a bit faster. Atleast with the new ball.

When a young bowler starts, he is inexperienced and pace is what gives him a bit of leeway and security, but as he gains experience and gets better at his skills, he makes up for loss of pace with them. Even most genuine pacers lose pace at the end of their careers.
