I would never want to lose Rook ...
I don't think any computer would have played that move either considering how computers evaluate pieces by points.

Time probably was an issue..
I think he decided that it's do or die today. Not necessarily the right thing to do when you're playing black. He should have used this attitude in his previous game or kept it till his next game.

So Anand has ended with bishop + 3 pawns v/s Rook + 3 pawns. Fair to say that it was a blunder. No way is he going to be able to draw this game.

So can we say this was a match of missed opportunities and blunders on part of anand? Can't expect to beat carlsen with such form. But was a fantastic career for him. Made India proud.

The difference between Anand and Carlsen is that Anand always tends to play some high risk moves hoping to catch his opponent by surprise. While some of the times it does pay off for him, against an opponent like Carlsen, who has been trained by none other than Kasparov, more often than not such moves are going to fail.

Just retire Anand. Its embarassing.
not sure what is embarrassing. He was in control of the game until the last few seconds. Carlsen lost to a much much lower ranked player early last year. should he retire too? Unless everyone else in the world beats Anand we cannot call it embarrassing. He is up against a world class opponent.
