I met Sachin on Saturday. He was at a shopping centre just 1.8 miles from my house. I queued up outside, he walked past and stopped when I put my hand out. We shook hands, I filmed this on my phone. I then met him inside about 45 mins later, he signed my book, we shook hands again, he thanked me for queuing and buying the book, I was lost for words. This second handshake was captured in photographs taken by staff there on my phone (subsequently facebooked/whatsapped around). One of my greatest ever days, I almost forgot my book but luckily he handed it to me. He is every bit as humble as people say, a true gentleman. I was overwhelmed...

I knew 6 days before but kept it quiet to increase my chances of meeting him. I got there 2 hours before he was due to show up, and had ticket no.149 in the queue. They said they only had 500 tickets. You could only meet him if you had bought the book from that store, and had a receipt as proof (I had taken care of this on thursday, as I shop there regularly). The queue was close to 1,000 (some tickets were entire families instead of just one person), inside the store, there were hundreds of people who hadn't queued to meet him, they just wanted to see him from afar, behind a barrier of policemen. Now every week when I shop there, I will be pointing out to my wife and daughters the exact spot where I met Sachin. Obviously I've seen him from afar before, when I saw him play live, or warm up. He once even waved in our direction from a balcony during a warm-up game when he was injured, but this meeting on saturday was by far the ultimate for me...
