asterix Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Why there were protests in case 2 years ago. There too culprits were caught. Did you raise this question then too. Internal security lies with Home Minister. Period. Even if culprits were caught, it doesn't change the fact that incident happened. There were similar protests against Sheila Dixit as well. Did you question that time that what Shiela Dixit got to do with that ? Seriously. Why no protests in Bangaluru by AAP against the Congress govt. For so many sexual assaults of minor girls in various city schools? Would AAP had protested against its own state home minister if it would've been in power in Delhi?
Sachin=GOD Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Foolish decision by the Govt to stop Uber from operating in Delhi. Instead of stopping them from operating, the Govt should make sure that such companies follow all the necessary security related rules and improve its own procedures related to background checks for drivers.

Say, UBER continues its operations as it is without any safety mechanism (now that it's evident) and another incident happens, all hell will break lose...

Say, UBER continues its operations as it is without any safety mechanism (now that it's evident) and another incident happens, all hell will break lose... As I said, the Govt should make sure that all safety related regulations are strictly followed - if Uber can do that then there's no reason for the Govt to stop its operations. Merely ordering a company to stop operating will not solve anything.

They don't have any mechanism in place for any emergency redressal and also all data being stored in US. No local data available for authorities for emergency lookup... The govt, should get through the "Motor Vehicle Act" bill which covers these "aggregators" like UBER, and is pending in Parliament... All these will take time... Also, it's just banned in NCR. GOI has not banned it in India ( which IMO it should do). More details here: http://firstbiz.firstpost.com/corporate/uber-banned-in-delhi-but-it-may-still-go-scot-f-112123.html

More and more of such cab companies are opening in major cities in India every month so it is the Govt which has to make sure that safety related mechanisms are put in place, strictly followed and proper background checks of drivers done - banning a company is no solution at all IMO.
asterix Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 ^ agree banning is not a solution... I think BJP opted for this option because of many other factors which you may know. They just about managed to sort out the Rajya sabha logjam... On top of it, Delhi elections are coming and AAP is just about looking for any excuse to jump on the streets...

More and more of such cab companies websites that provide a way for cab companies and anyone else who wants to drive taxis to connect to customers, pretending to be cab companies to lure customers but using, we are just a app/aggregator to escape responsibilities that go with a modern cab service are opening in major cities in India every month so it is the Govt which has to make sure that safety related mechanisms are put in place, strictly followed and proper background checks of drivers done - banning a company is no solution at all IMO.
gattaca Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Legally' date=' here is what Uber should do. The question is why were they pulled AFTER something happened? [b']Typical reactive glorious Indian mentality. I don't trust the cops in India. This service in US makes sense but not in india. Where background checks can be manipulated.
randomGuy Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Wow, some morons are so insecure. Call AAP names in every single thread. AAP is active mainly in Delhi, they do not have the bandwidth to take up issues in each n every city. Besides attacking pubs, beating up people celebrating valentines day etc, BJP very often protests in congress ruled states against sexual assaults. But bhakts being blind to that will naturally ignore.
moniker Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 AAP and NSUI are protesting in front of Rajnath Singh house against Modi and his government due to this incident. Exactly what they are demanding is unclear. As per TOI newspaper, the series of events: 1. She went to Gurgaon pub, had some drink and dinner. 2. Then she went to Vasant kunj Pub and had some more drink. 3. She calls a Taxi through the App. 4. As soon as she sits in the taxi, due to too much of heavy drinking she fells asleep. 5. Taxi driver takes advantage of this and rapes her. In New Delhi, Uber or non Uber, Meru or auto if the above series of events are true, it is most probable that more than 50% of the drivers would have done the same. I might be wrong but what exactly has the Home Minister got to do with this. That is some assumption to make. Do you mean to say that more than half of the drivers in Delhi are criminally inclined, will exploit vulnerable people? What kind of disgusting mentality a person should have to seek sexual gratification through force, the victim be vulnerable or not? Do really such a huge part of the general populace have this kind of mentality? A basic background check is essential to weed out such people.
asterix Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 There's lots of work needs to be done. A sex offenders list is essential which all the authorities can quickly refer to.

Desi Cartman Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Why didn't they ban buses after the rape and murder ?

bulbul Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 He added that Uber is "misleading customers" by offering them Taxis with All-India permits that cannot ply in Delhi from point-to-point ferrying customers. "In this rape case, the victim was provided a All India Permit Taxi which is not allowed to ferry customers point-to-point in the National capital http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/software/delhi-government-bans-uber-says-it-is-misleading-customers/articleshow/45411180.cms
gattaca Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Why didn't they ban buses after the rape and murder ? Less visibility with uber. for buses you can atleast reach out to the organization. Uber is all app and a unkown driver.
Crookbond Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Statement of Union Home Minister in the Parliament on the incident of sexual assault of a woman by a cab driver in Delhi on 5/6.12.14 http://pib.nic.in/newsite/mbErel.aspx?relid=112794 Following is the text of the Statement of Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh in the Parliament on the incident of sexual assault of a woman by a cab driver in Delhi on 5/6.12.14 in the Parliament today: “I rise to report an extremely unfortunate incident of sexual assault on a young woman in the night intervening 5/6.12.2014. The Government of India strongly condemns this dastardly act. It will be ensured that all necessary steps are taken to bring the offender to justice. On 5.12.14 during late evening hours, a 26 year old woman (name withheld for privacy and legal reasons) had hired a taxi through the online cab service ‘UBER’ at around 10.30 PM for going from Vasant Vihar area to Inder Lok in the jurisdiction of PS Sarai Rohilla, North District. The woman works in Gurgaon and after her office hours she had come to Vasant Vihar with some friends. The woman reported that while sitting in the taxi, she dozed off for a while and then suddenly realized that the taxi was parked at an isolated place and the driver was trying to molest her on the back seat. She tried to raise an alarm but the driver threatened her of physical injury and then she was sexually assaulted in the car. After committing the crime the driver dropped her at her home at around 1 AM and threatened her again not to disclose about the incident to anyone. As soon as information was received by the police, a case was registered vide FIR No. 1291/14 dated 6.12.14, U/S 376/323/506 IPC PS Sarai Rohilla. Immediately police teams were formed to identify and locate the culprit. The woman was sent for medical examination and she was also counselled by an NGO volunteer authorized by Delhi Commission for Women. Following the clues at hand and through painstaking investigation, the culprit driver was zeroed down as one person from Mathura, owner of the vehicle Swift Desire No. DL-1YD 7910. He has this vehicle registered with Uber Cab Service. The Vehicle used in the crime has been found and brought to Delhi where it will be subjected to thorough forensic examination. The accused has been arrested on 7.12.2014 from Mathura and has been brought to Delhi where he will be produced before court on 8.12.2014 i.e. today.”
asterix Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Let's ban all taxis until they ensure all safety mechanisms. With UBER and similar, you can't catch hold of them in case of any incident. As in this case, the UBER CEO has washed his hands and put all the onus on the transport department and police. Say terrorists using UBER cabs. Govt. Will get blamed in any case, but you'll not be able to get hold of these "virtual companies"... I mean the Police had to actually download the App, paid Rs. 200 upfront, then took the cab to locate its office only to find 2 caretakers. They didn't had access to the cab data as everything was being stored in USA servers. That's why there was a delay to track the culprit. In case of terrorists, they might vanish during that delay, for example. For example, show me UBER's Mumbai office address: https://www.uber.com/cities/mumbai In this case the UBER APP phone was being shared by 3 drivers. An all India ban is coming soon...
