Buchanan: Get Sachin early

Recommended Posts

Ben Dorries November 28, 2007 12:00am FORMER coach John Buchanan has handed Australia his blueprint to rock Sachin Tendulkar, saying the Indian master is susceptible to short-pitched bowling early in his innings. Operation "Get Tendulkar" will be the key plank of Australia's plan for the four-Test series this summer and Buchanan's video analysis of the Indian provides crucial intelligence. Buchanan has noticed Tendulkar's footwork has become sluggish, especially early in his innings, making him vulnerable to quicker and shorter bowling followed by the sucker punch of a fuller delivery. "What I've been seeing for a while is that his feet don't move early in his innings and he is not very fluid early on," Buchanan said. "That makes the good-pace short ball a great weapon. It's something that Australia should be very conscious of this summer. "It doesn't necessarily mean you will get Sachin out with the shorter ball. But you can push him back on his crease and then look for a full ball, which he can tend to squirt to the slips early in his innings when he doesn't have great control." Tendulkar boasts a similar Test average (54.16) in Australia as he does overseas. Most batsmen from the subcontinent struggle in Australia because they are uncomfortable on the quick, bouncy pitches. Tendulkar's statistics do not give weight to the theory the 34-year-old is a fading star, because his Test average of 55.38 in 1989-1999 is similar to his 54.43 return since the turn of the century. However, Buchanan feels Tendulkar is not playing with the same consistency. "He still has greatness within him like all great players. It is still there but it does not appear as regularly," Buchanan said. Buchanan has also noticed the Little Master is often uncomfortable against left-arm pace, even battling against modest left-armers such as West Indian Pedro Collins. And Tendulkar was floored by Australia's Mitchell Johnson in last year's DLF Cup one-day series in Malaysia. "Mitchell Johnson has bowled very well to Sachin in the past and I'd expect him to trouble him again with his left-arm variety," Buchanan said. "Brett Lee will also be a key man because of his pace."

Absolutely.... stupid of him to comment like that. Even Dravid loses his middle stump few times in the early innings before 20-30 runs. Does that mean anything??? It is just a lack of concentration at that particular moment. If you want to get SRT out when he is in full flow is with obstacles. Change of balls, long discussions, spectators moving around etc. I have seen him getting out everytime when there is some kind of break in his innings. He only gets through such things when someone else is on the strike. He is going to trouble aussies lot this time. He and SG will lbe standing tall like mountains in every innings they play in Australia. That way creating lot of opportunities for RD, VVS and Dhoni to score lots of runs. If our openers do good job in first 20-30 overs then SRT, SG will also score good runs or else they will spend all their experience in Anchoring the innings. These days thats the role that they are playing in Indian team.

Can agree to only one point that Sachin had a history of getting troubled by mean left-handed bowlers... Sidebottom, Pedro Colins, Mitchell Johnson, Giles [though a spinner], Bangladeshi spinners etc. Of course, he was great against the best of left-arm bowlers like Vaas and Akram, but it always becomes an issue when said about the great man....

Mitchell Johnson will make Sachin his bunny and will dismiss him for single digit scores in all the 8 innings. In Tamil we have a phrase called " Solli solli adipaan" which roughly translates into something like " informing the enemy when you are gonna attack him and yet beat him" That is what Johnson will do. He will make pronouncements before every test on how he will dismiss Sachin in the test and he will succeed.

idhu varaikkum sachina solli adicha ambala kidayadhu... translated : there's no one till now to have stated before the match and got rid of him... look at what happened to Cad-dick in WC 2003... that six still stands out... probably the best next to the six off actor...
