The drs is to avoid howlers .So when its a 50-50 call the umpire decision stands .How is that absurd? DRS is implemented to eliminate howlers not marginal decisions This very notion is absurd...that its ok if they get it wrong for something marginal even though it could be avoided. Its not logical that 2 identical deliveries have different results based on umpire...that is the exact opposite of removing human errors.

I would think the correct decision percentages without DRS are in the 70% range. With DRS, the correct decision percentages should rise to atleast 90% (perhaps more). 100% can never be achieved. Either BCCI is living in utopia or having some ulterior motives for rejecting DRS.

DRS is not accurate for marginal decisions. That's why it should be used only for the obvious howlers.

kosingh Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 More frustrating than the non use of the DRS is BCCI's refusal to allow players, Indian commentators etc to even talk about it. I would love to hear some more elaborate thoughts from the likes of Dravid and Ganguly. But it will not happen.

Say the on-field umpire's decision is a howler, who refers it to the third umpire then? The on-field umpire himself won't do it, it is he who made the decision. Has to be left to the players. Another option is to let the third umpire himself override the decision, but that would mean the third umpire has to monitor each and every ball. But what's happening now is the third ump only looks at those cases where a referral has been made, either by the on-field ump or by a player who is using DRS.
