Greg Chappel advised him to concentrate on line and length due to his injury issues. It happened after SA tour 2006. He was second quickest bowler on WI tour before that. He could still bowl quick if he wanted but instead tried to imitate McGrath bowling within himself to prolong his career, even his runup became similar to Mcgrath.

from what ever I am reading Varun and Umesh would now have been advised by at least 20 coaches and imminent personalities the Virtue of LINE N LENGTH even at the cost of PACE.. I guess that will turn these two fiery fast bowlers to become under 140k soon... I wish and pray that does not happen.

Who are we to judge his choices and life? He's living his life, we can cry wasted talent bla bla but for him cricket wasn't the only thing about life. People must appreciate this basic fact of life.
