rkt.india Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Disclaimer - I have a theory and I might be 100% wrong We somehow think genuine wicket taking bowlers are those that can't hold a bat. If someone can hold a bat, we put them out of that category. If Bhuvi/Jadeja/Ashwin can't bat, they become genuine wicket taking bowlers as somehow, the perception will be that these players are in only for their bowling so they must be genuine wicket taking bowlers. Captain will be praised saying he is aggressive,blah blah If Umesh/Ishant/Shami can bat a bit, they will not be genuine wicket taking bowlers - look above. Ashwin isnt a genuine wicket taker even if he can bat. He had never taken more than 3 wickets in ODIs in 88 ODIs. BK has about 20 wickets in last 27 matches averaging 45.

We have bowlers that can be economical given the large grounds and captain's comfort in setting fields. If these "can be" economical bowlers come with some batting skills, then that would be a better option as ODIs are about scoring more "runs" than the opposition - NOT taking more wickets ( which is my premise - We DONT have wicket taking economical bowlers so stop creating them ) Who are our economical bowlers BK, Jadeja, Ashwin, Mohit. All four played in Ist ODI in SA on a helpful track and conceded 360. Ashwin was our most expensive bowler against Aua in first match.
