According to police, O Preman, 45, a toddy tapper, was attacked. An armed gang hurled bombs to scare people away, before hacking O Preman, 45, a toddy tapper, police said. He had sustained serious injuries on both legs. He was rushed to a hospital in Thalassery but succumbed to injuries on Thursday morning. A hartal was observed in Kannur district, in protest against the murder. Police have registered a case against 10 BJP-RSS workers. The district administration has convened a peace meeting on Friday. CPI (M) district secretary P Jayarajan said the Sangh Parivar has converted the district into battle ground after the BJP government came to power at the Centre. Kannur district, which had a long blood-stained history of cyclical political violence, had remained peaceful for the recent years. However, things have changed after BJP stepped up its membership campaign after the party assumed power at the Centre. Several pro-CPI (M) men had joined the BJP in the recent months. RSS leader Valsan Thillankery said CPI (M) workers were attacking those who had abandoned their party to join BJP. “We have maintained utmost restraint even after the murder RSS district-level functionary E Manoj, in September last year. If we lose this self-control, the repercussions would be far reaching. The district is on the brink of a confrontation. In the recent months, the BJP-RSS workers had faced around 100 attacks from CPI (M). Around 400 persons were injured and 70 offices were attacked in the recent months,†said the RSS leader. In the recent months, there have been frequent incidents of tension between CPI (M) and BJP workers in Kannur district, which had been once known for blood-stained political violence. sachin34357 Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 Second death in two days in RSS attacks in Kannur district of Kerala. 62-year old Sarojini, mother of a CPI (M) branch secretary Shaijan, who was admitted at the Kozhikode Medical College in a serious condition after RSS bomb attack on her house on February 2, passed away on Friday. Early morning on February 2, a group of RSS workers arrived in the locality to attack Shaijan. They first went to the adjacent house and was about to attack someone there with swords, when they realised their mistake. They proceeded to Shaijan’s house and carried out the attack with country bombs and swords. Sarojini’s husband Achuthan was also injured in the attack. On the way back, they damaged a few vehicles parked nearby too. On Thursday, 45-year old Preman, a toddy shop worker and a newspaper agent, was attacked by RSS members with country bombs and later both his legs were cut off. He died soon after. The same day, the RSS also attacked an area committee office of the CPI (M) and also critically injuring two workers, who were stabbed. With the local body elections only a few months away and the assembly elections scheduled next year, the RSS is expected to step up such violent and gruesome attacks on CPI (M) workers in the party’s stronghold Kannur. But, there has been hardly any media attention on these murders, which almost always ends up as single column news in some inside page. The lenient attitude of the Kerala Home Minister when it comes to cases involving the RSS seems to have inspired them to carry out more attacks in a similar vein. Last year, at the other end of Kerala, Narayanan a 58-year old worker of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and a CPI(M) worker was killed in an overnight attack by RSS at his house. His sons, both members of the SFI and the actual targets of the attackers, were seriously inured too in the attack. The attackers are still at large and recently, during a protest organised by certain women’s self-help group against the Modi Government’s plans to shut down the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), the first accused in the Narayanan murder case, attacked the women. In the past three years, a total of 23 CPI (M) workers (Adding 2 to the number presented in the assembly) were killed in various attacks across the state. Out of this, 13 were by RSS, the rest by the Muslim league and the UDF. The number of those injured is still unknown. How many front page stories have you read? No wonder when an MBA student searching for a job in Uttarakhand is brutally murdered in a fake encounter , people blindly believe and accept the police version and just don't care about truth or Justice.

When highly educated people just nitpick one side of story others left with no option..I dont think any one left with Gandhi's principle of show other cheek now a days..really sad state of affairs but thats how reality is there. Kannur is infamous for political/communal violence from decades,unfortunately OP realized this when it suits to him.

Rather than condemning both sides (or all parties), many people decided to take sides depending upon vested interests and we all know where Italy ended up going
