Yeah post hai thoda senti and thoda soch vicahar :-) In terms of the Cricketing World, I feel that we are like Germany in FIFA World Cups. Very similar tournament history and quite comparable current political economy. We bring our best game to ICC tournaments, play as a team in the sense that our players relish each others success and we deal with pressure like it is all in a day's work section in the good old Reader's Digest magazine. It doesn't matter if we have a bad game in the Quarters and/or the other team outplays us. Team India has already done us fans and fanatics proud! Dhoni, you will be remembered fondly in the Indian cricketing history as being a leader extraordinaire. May the Indian ICC juggernaut roll on for 6 more games! We are more like Argentina. Too much talent in one area and short of it in another. Germany is more like Sri Lanka. Mostly there in SF/Finals with not much success.

Germany : India :: FIFA : ICC analogy only holds if you consider both sports and political economy together. Sri Lanka is not a political powerhouse nor it is an economic heavyweight like India :-) I am considering Euros as being equivalent to the Asia Cup. I know this is not defensible but this is sports discussion, not pure logic ;-) I realize that the analogy breaks down at the club level. That said, Germany: India :: Bundesliga : IPL can still hold if India manages to retain the World Cup with Bayern Munich = Chennai Super Kings :-) Of course, IPL is more like EPL in terms of financial power.

They do. Check some of the English forums' date=' they are whining like anything.[/quote'] 50 to 60 people whining is not hyping....i doubt they can even watch the matches as its night time for them.

It could either be a false dawn or a glorious sunrise in terms of how India does in this World Cup and the ICC tournaments coming up. As cricket becomes increasingly a batsman's game, I think that India has good prospects of being a perennial contender in tournaments.

There are forums for England cricket team? This is news a to me. The are few county forums including a couple for Yorkshire, but they tend to be less interested in England (especially the Yorkshire ones where there has always been suspicion and animosity with the ECB for various reasons). I've never come across a comprehensive forum for England llike this place and pak passion It's true there has been a lot of chuntering on media platforms like the BBC but only because it's an English pasttime to ridicule our 'best' sportsmen and in no way an indicator of expectations and hype I agree with the German comparison to a certain extent, except they don't have these dramatic slumps in performance and apparent disinterest in some less significant games like India in their recent Aussie tour

Possibly although I don't really follow them outside major tournaments. I thought that 'zey alvays vant to vin every match ja because zey are German'. They certainly didn't struggle when they played a friendly at Wembley last year anyway!

India are brazil- large population, vibrant economy, diverse cultural mix, flare and style with success Pakistan are Argentina- always comparing themselves to big brother, on their day unstoppable and everyone's favourites, rarely produce and often dissapoint Aus are Germany- multiple winners, due to discipline, traditionally White only team- now trying to Introduce an ethnic flavour Sri Lanka are Uruguay- small population, perform well in tournaments, always in shadows of two bigger brothers England are england- lol South Africa are the Spain of old- star studied line ups- flop in big tourneys
