I don't know how true are the stands of the mob in this case. I mean this sort of punishment is justified in cases where the accused is proven guilty and substantial evidence is stacked up against him. These criminals should be given some inhuman treatment. If a terrorists don't think twice before killing innocent people, if a rapist do not think once for the victim or her family before committing the crime, why on earth should we not give them inhuman treatment? If that makes our mentality like terrorists, rapists so be it. There is a big difference, they do it on innocent people, we are doing it on criminals, so this is definitely justified.
In an uncivilized world. We have complete right to ask them to expedite the process. Taking justice into hands is not one. Who will draw the line for vigilante justice. Soon people will start killing criminals. For each killing there will be one justification. So we should not entertain such thoughts.

Seems like him being a Bangladeshi immigrant had something to do with the juvenile behaviour from the public and the support these actions are getting. How does a mob break into a jail?

Mob justice should never be encouraged. The worse thing that can happen is an innocent person getting killed by the mob based merely on allegations. I just hope this incident doesn't turn out like the Rohtak case where the alleged culprit turned out to be innocent.

Completely disagree. If the state allows mob justice then there is no difference between the 'inhuman' criminals and the state/those giving this 'mob justice'. The terrorists don't thing twice before killing innocent people - that is exactly why THEY are terrorists and WE as a people are not. If we also start giving in to such impulses to kill terrorists/rapists etc then after sometime we will be no different from them. Also, as vvslaxman said - where do you draw the line?

According to news reports there were over 5000 people - I don't think any jail has enough police to stop such a large number of angry people intent on breaking in.

They better expedite the litigation process or else this will get out of control.
The complaint was filed on Feb24th . Surely a person cannot be tried and convicted in 2 weeks ?

Many such incidents have occurred in the last decade in India. The public finds it easy to be indifferent when the victim is an alleged Terrorist/Criminal. An unarmed girl with no prior criminal history was kept in illegal custody and murdered by the Police and the MSM had no qualms to retroactively label her a terrorist based on flimsy evidence that would not stand scrutiny in a court of law. I hesitatingly generalize , but i believe most Indians do not understand or believe in due process. That even an "alleged" criminal/Terrorist not posing an immediate threat in police custody , has constitutional rights , a right to confront his accusers and the evidence against himself in a court of law.

Either the troll level is so high on those posts that I can't detect it or suddenly there has been some corrections with emotional, social and psychological aspects of the world.

What kind of a "high security" jail was this such that people can just go in and do whatever they want?
It was not 'people', it was a mob numbering more than 5000.

It was not 'people'' date=' it was a mob numbering more than 5000.[/quote'] The guards should open fire on these idiots becoming emotionally worked up and trying to take law into their own hands. The argument is valid that rapists should be given a death penalty (although I disagree with it to a certain extent) but this is not the way to accomplish that.

Mob thrashes to death alleged rapist in Nagaland

Recent reports suggest he wasn't an immigrant. How does he get in? Well, the police give the mob a red carpet welcome. https://twitter.com/shivaroor/status/573917418545786880 Now let's say what people have to say on mob lynching.

The Centre on Friday sought a report from Nagaland on the lynching of a rape accused by a mob in Dimapur and put neighbouring Assam on high alert in the wake of the incident. One person identified as Inito Swu, who was among the five injured in Thurday's police firing on the mob, succumbed to his injuries.

As I said earlier, there is a difference. The terrorists and rapists kill/harm innocent people whereas this would result in harming a criminal. I know its a bit difficult to draw the line, but if someone is proven guilty with substantial evidence and on conclusive grounds, I think it should be enough for him to face the consequences. The reason why the crime rate has gone up is primarily due to lack of fear amongst these *******s, once the consequences are crystal clear, I am sure the crime rate will go down.

You cannot be more wrong EVERY study conducted disproves that harsh punishment prevents crime A criminal is incapable of rational thoughts about consequences. They cannot think ahead Secondly, studies prove that it is the CONVICTION rate and the possibility of getting caught which deters crime and not the quantum of punishment And satisfying your blood lust, revenge, etc has nothing to do with deterring crime except in people's fantasy
