Texan Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 how exactly would that be a solution to the state's problem? I feel the BJP were right to form government with the PDP however the mufti has gone a step too far. They should pull the plug on this guy. I personally did not mind the PDP patron making statements. We all have to play to the galleries. But this guy has effectively released a terrorist. Regardless of political ideology its crossing the line. The BJP have given it a try. I feel the people of Jammu will forgive them and vote for them again if they opt to end the government. the only way I feel the BJP can stay in this coalition is if they manage to get this guy rearrested. Otherwise come election time they are going to bleed votes in the rest of urban india especially. Mufti is a snake. I had mentioned earlier. BJP should never have had anything to do with him. Besides, BJP have got a pathetic deal in this coalition. They have virtually handed the government over to Mufti. BJP has nothing to win and everything to lose from here on. Some severe backlash coming up for BJP in the future unless they wash their hands off of this fellow.
G_B_ Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Mufti is a snake. I had mentioned earlier. BJP should never have had anything to do with him. Besides' date=' BJP have got a pathetic deal in this coalition. They have virtually handed the government over to Mufti. BJP has nothing to win and everything to lose from here on. Ministries which will benefit big time from central funds. They have got some big ministries. They got a fair trade i felt. Aside from finance (which is a dud ministry in JnK owing to the states finances) the PDP dont have money oriented ministries and will concentrate on law and order. Even Omar Abdullah is a snake. BJP cant go with congress. You need to show the people of Jammu something to tell them you will bring development to them. That cant happen sitting outside the gov. I agree that the BJP should pull out. Its not meant to be...if you stick with him, he will continue to either make statements or do something in terms of actions which the MSM (rightly so) will highlight. This makes the BJP look weak. At the end of the day Kashmir is 1% of India's population and probably less than 1% of India's GDP. The BJP are sitting of major states and have a decent chance to form government in Bihar and Assam. There is no need to fight fires and bleed core voters for this state.
G_B_ Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I would respect BJP for giving it a try. Mufti should work in spirit of coalition. If he is not' date=' it is not BJP's fault.[/quote'] atleast we agree on this.
G_B_ Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 The way i see it the BJP have three options (A) Rearrest this guy. Either persuade the PDP to or use the powers of a central government. (B) Pull out from government (which will call PR and then they are free to arrest him again) © Stay in government and order a covert operation to whack this guy. It will send a message to Mujti not to feck around. Ajit Doval the ball is in your court.

Yes, he is a little bitter with BJP at the moment, but his party is definitely more India-centric than Mufti who is separatist centric. Yes, making an attempt to form a government with ideologically diametrically opposite PDP was a valiant and commendable attempt, but getting 6 vs 16 ministries, conceding CM post for entire term and also backing down on some core ideological principles was a step too far. So now, if something good does happen from this coalition, Mufti will run away with all the credit. And anything bad will hurt BJP. They have to even think of the rest of India. By backing down on some core principles, they are going to lose a sizable share of their votes in the rest of India. For that matter, I wouldn't even mind if BJP, Cong and NC had tied up to form a coalition. Yes, Cong and BJP are opponents at the national level, but in a state like J and K, it is more important that the India centric parties are on the same page, which all three of them are.
Texan Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Look at the seat distribution: PDP: 28 BJP: 25 If you add 2 members from Sajjad Lone's party, which was essentially a proxy for BJP in the valley, then BJP has 27, just one short of PDP's seat count. In such a scenario, I would think that if BJP is conceding the CM position then they should be getting at least 60-70% of the ministries. Whatever few ministries the BJP now has - Mufti is not even going to let them work independently. All BJP MLAs are not really core politicians. Mufti is a seasoned player and he is going to make sure he is going to have his way. BJP is basically powerless in J and K and will only be the fall guy when things go wrong.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Mufti just cannot be trusted. He really is anti national IMO. But here BJPs problem is that if they snap the alliance now and there are re elections then PDP will win in a landslide by playing victim of BJPs politics. So either they should stick for sometime and make sure that people see the real colors of Mufti or form a govt with NC.
adi B Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I don't know why bjp agreed to this alliance! Just because it's symbolic and the fact that they have never been in power in j&k for a long Time doesn't mean they form this suicidal alliance with opposite pole.just pull the plugs

Their core supporters are seething. I myself am extremely angry. Hate to say this but i prefer the congress and NC to this alliance as things stand. I find Omar Abdullah to be irritating as feck. But you have to give credit to him and the congress for locking alam up.

Its why Nirmal singh is handling many important portfolios in addition to being deputy cm Like it or not the PDP as a result of forming government from 2002-2008 does have some experience in running a government. The BJP faced the same issues in Haryana where they have a large % of first time MLA's. As a result experienced MLA's are handling multiple ministries. they have had to import people from other parties and give them ministries.

jalebi_bhai Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 While breaking the coalition and enforcing president's rule is morally the right thing to do (no compromise when dealing with terrorists), how would this affect BJP's political prospects in J&K? If president's rule is enforced for about a year, could the BJP, in a year's time, sway the public in the valley to vote in their favor? I frankly don't know. That then leads to the question of how important is J&K to the BJP at the national level? Electorally, it is not substantial enough to warrant any sort of accommodation for those who would compromise the principles of the party. Not substantial enough to malign BJP supporters nationally either. So, whether they get re-elected or not, looking ahead to 2019, J&K won't be detrimental to them coming back to power. There might be some backlash within the state, but it would have to be written off as collateral damage. Security wise, as far as AFSPA is still enforced, J&K will not be in any imminent danger. So in conclusion, I think breaking the govt. and enforcing president's rule is the way to go. However, the time is not right atm. Parliamentary proceedings are going on and Home ministry has to deal with this rape documentary jugaad. English MSM is in overdrive mode against the govt. atm. I think maybe breaking the govt. towards end of July would be the right time. This Alam bloke needs to be thrown back in jail.

jalebi_bhai Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 well put More or less echoing your thoughts. :--D I don't see any other way really. ABV got termed as a softie after the whole Indian Airlines-Kandahar fiasco. No compromise when tackling terrorists. I will be bitterly disappointed if they don't break the coalition before 2016. They must get the timing right though.

Desi Cartman Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I want to know why he was allowed to be released, I heard a PDP guy say that there was no pending case or something to that affect before arnab goswami went mental once again, didn't even let the guy complete his sentence and then didht let him speak for the next hour. I want to hear PDP's side on it.
