Brainfade Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Republicans are stuck in a warp with rapidly evolving culture. With more young people getting a chance to vote more problems for republicans because social policies of youngsters will more likely to be liberal. Republicans cannot "efford" (vvs laxman commentary style) to drop some of their principles just because country is on a progressive path. Their voting base is largely conservative. I live in a highly conservative neighbourhood where they rate worksmanship of a contractor based on how faithful he is to god. True it happened to me. I was looking for a deck contractor. My neighbour told me "I know a contractor. He is very god fearing. He is good" . Majority of the old people cannot give up their conservative ideologies. Because of that Republicans cannot give up as well. I don't know how many of you guys have seen this stupid movie DIVERGENT. In that movie they put you in different groups where you have to follow their ideologies or else you will be left out or treated as divergent they will finish you. It is somewhat like that. In theory majority would be libtertarians. Romney was an example. Admitting that is considered a weakness among conservatives. So they have to follow some of the ideologies that they don't believe in. Second category is hardcore conservatives who often make some stupid statements and get exposed b y liberal media. It is a tough time . On the other hand Dems don't have to worry about their social policies. It is in step with current generation. So no need of extra effort to convince the voters. That leaves us with fiscal policy, healthcare policy etc. Lot of conservatives blame liberals are on food stamps. Yes there are few. By the same token there are some conservatives also on food stamps. Also there are lot liberals who are doctors, scientists, engineers. In this day and age using talking points like that will only hurt you more than help you. They have to convince their own voting base first then the country. So it is somewhat like a transition period for them. Good points. But this god-fearing = humble = good person crap is not restricted to conservative christians. I heard that a lot growing up as a Hindu. In the US, most hindus I know are appalled by gay marriage. Appalled by atheism. Think Blacks are criminals. Think most Muslims are terrorists. Love the RSS. Think Modiji is great mainly because he brought a saffron resurgence in India. But support the Dem party in the US. Wonder if, as staunch Hindus, they feel threatened by the cons. christians?

He was born here. My daughters don't consider themselves Indian. And why should they? They were born here. They love their Indian heritage, but are not Indian.

Am still waiting for the first Dem gov of Indian-American origin. So far the Repubs have elected Jindal and Haley (daughter of "turban-wearing terrorist sheekh"). OTOH, the great state of Cal voted in the old, white, likely Christian Jerry Brown over young, brown, possibly Hindu Kashkari despite Brown's horrific economic record.

Hinduism -> PRotesant christian -> Evangelican catholical. to garner GOP votes.

But, being in Louisiana, he would've been better off staying Protestant (specifically Baptist). But, why did he convert to Catholicism? And Nikki Haley married a Methodist and converted. She still attends the Sikh temple. She would've been much better off converting into a Baptist and completely renouncing her Sikh heritage.

The problem is that people who wouldn't want to vote HC will be forced to do so in order to avoid Jebb Bush getting elected. Jebb has a decent chance against Hillary as she won't be able to get as many voters out as Obama was able to in the last 2 elections. HC will be in trouble especially if someone like Rand Paul gets the nomination, its very unlikely but if he gets it then its game over for Hillary.

The media will kill him. Hillary still has name recognition and wide popularity, plus the chance to elect the first woman president may be too much for people to pass up.

Brainfade Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Both support republicans right? Protestant and Catholics? So i guess it doesn't matter. Nationally, Catholics are 80 - 20 in favor of Democrats. Surprising, eh? I don't know that Louisiana is any different. But, if it was all vote-bank politics, he would have stuck to Protestantism, specifically of the Baptist kind - they make up 60+ % of Louisiana's demographic, while Catholics are < 20 % total. Regardless, where you and I agree is that his social views are ultra-Christian - pro-life (which I staunchly agree with, but not for christian reasons), and creationism and anti-gay marriage (both of which I staunchly disagree with). That helps him with all Christians.

She isnt popular enough to get people out to vote. I personally cant believe that she is the best leader democrats have. Hopefully someone better will challenge her.

Secondly, the swing voters who lean right wont vote for Jebb. Actually it'll be a very uninteresting election if it ends up between Jebb and Clinton, and in this case I see Jebb getting a close win with a very low turnout.
