Number Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Well SRTs legacy was diminished some what due to his late retirement.So yes his retirement needs to be brought into the picture. Sure SRT is a better test cricketer but generally people remember the person who stands out as an icon for their generation and IMO that six on a humid night in Mumbai will be remembered for a long time. As an icon its very tough to match SRT. He is god for 90s generation and has as many fans in 2000s as any. Other than Warne, I haven't seen a cricketer getting ovations like that in opponent's ground. MSD presently beats him in commercial value may be. But that is time specific, may be a year later Virat Kohli will be there.

I dont think he was a better player though .
