Worked very hard at it would be the short answer, but the long answer is when he first played test cricket as a leg spinner (yes I know ridiculous), he went back to NSW and demanded he bat in the top 5, as he saw himself as a batsman who could bowl a fraction. Worked for 2 years and had Sheffield Shield seasons where he averaged 60+. Earnt his recall and the rest is history. Also changed from being a very side on batsman to being very much like Ponting and being straight on.

Everybody knows his early career was average, he is a late bloomer, this last year or two is what counts, hes a new man, doubt him at your own peril, he is now a world class bat and he will prove the doubters wrong 50 times over in the future.

He grew up as a man and matured, he has great batting coaches and a very special temprement, he was just waiting to bloom, and i think this is just the tip of the iceburg with him, he is a very special kid, the sky is the limit, and i fully expect him to break every run scoring record in the country, the people close to him are backing him to be one of the greatest Aussie bats in history, and they are backing him to gain the title of the best in the world, laugh all you want but thats how good they think he is.

Have been saying it for 4 years and I'll stand by this. Jake Doran will have 20+ test tons. He is already earmarked as our number 3. There is a good reason Cricket Australia have forced NSW to be very careful with him. The next stage is him playing for Tassie for 2 years (under his old batting coach). He will play for Australia within 2 years.
Number Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Australian domestic setup has to be one of the toughest domestic setups across all the sports in the world Once a batsman or bowler tops the chart in it. He has capability of doing the same in the internationals. That's why I feel in India we need 4 teams of best players in the season to play for 2 months at least. It raises level of competition and will filter out players who pile runs against 4th bowler of 3rd grade Ranji side and stake claim.

I hope he doesn't turns out someone like Rohit Sharma. Too much talent and potential, one in a blue moon performances.

Too much talent and potential' date=' one in a blue moon performances.[/quote'] Rarely am wrong about these players (the others I said this about were Smith, Ponting and Clarke), there is a good reason that Cricket Australia have forced NSW to be extremely careful. He just has to work on being able to rotate the strike early but that will come, has all the shots. I stand by the comment.
