CricketEngineer Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 One can only compare this game to the 3rd Test match played between India and Pakistan in Karachi, 2006. 1st Innings With medium pacer Irfan Pathan somehow taking a hat-trick against batting behemoths in Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf. The 3 wickets alone may have meant curtains for most sides, however with Miandad's last ball six still etched into Indian cricket hearts over 2 decades ago, a resilient Abdul Razzaq and Kamran Akmal counter-attacked and scored at a SR of ~80+. Kamran Akmal in particular scored a magnificent century that blunted the early damage and allowed Pakistan to post a respectable 245. 2nd Innings In reply on a flat Karachi wicket, Indian fans expected their team to post 300+, but against a world-class bowling attack in Shoaib Akhtar (160+kph speed demon), Abdul Razzaq (90+mph line-length bowler), and a special, special talent in Mohammad Asif (an artist with the ball), India had no answer and conceded a first innings lead of 7 runs (having scored 238). 3rd Innings A rejuvenated Pakistan then proceeded to flay India all over Karachi, with the top 7 batsman scoring 50+ each at SR of 60+, with special mentions to the elegant and classy Mohammad Yousuf and Faisal 'The Destroyer' Iqbal. Pakistan racked up a formidable 599 at a run-rate of 4.27. 4th Innings With India requiring 606 runs, the match was all but gone and they could only try to salvage some pride by attempting to save the Test match after being outclassed by both bat and ball. The genius in Mohammad Asif made sure no Indian heroics took place, ripping out the heart of the line-up by clean bowling Sehwag, Laxman and Tendulkar. I am sure that not only will we witness more games such as this in the domestic arena, but also in grass root levels which have produced legends such as Miandad, Sangakkara, Akhtar and Vaas. I hope cricket maintains it's purity, where the sheer excitement and passages of play of the longer format are not overshadowed by a growing slog-fest in T20.
