more than ganguly and dravid being good commies, we like them becoz we have a spot soft for them as we grew watching them play. VVS had to really **** up sometimes with his weird pronunciation to make us crack up. but then again, he has improved a lot so all the best to him. if we observe as neutral viewers, dravid is quite dry and diplomatic while ganguly is a little better, though awkward at times.

I don't agree that it's because of the soft spot we have for them. They're genuinely decent commentators, insightful, knowledgeable and avoid needless non stop blabbering. We also have a spot soft for someone like Kumble. But we certainly weren't blown away by his commentary. We have a soft spot for Sachin. But we can all agree that we never ever want to see him even given a chance at commentary.

I can't think of many Indians who have a voice for cricket -- that includes top news anchors, politicians etc. I don't follow Indian television, but who are considered good speakers on TV? Prannoy Roy? Karan Thappar? Vikram Chandra? Arnab Goswami? Shashi Tharoor? Even if we are to assume that they're very knowledgeable about cricket and insightful about strategy, I don't think any of them would sound good in the commentary box

i think it is just a matter of experience. guys like Boycott, Holding, Bumble have been commentating for years. In india this has become an option for a lot of top players only in last few years. Sunil and Shastri were only decent ones doing it for a long time. else you get crap like LSRK and Arun Lal now with more of experienced players like Dravid, Ganguly coming these guys will get better.
