everyone tries to imitate tony Greig's sense of awe and grandeur. they all try to imitate the same style of bursting out everytime a wicket falls or a boundary is hit. Arun lal tried to carve a niche for himself as an envirnomentalist-cricket commentator. but the maximum he could get were vultures and "beautiful" crows. he got severely trolled by sachin at a presentation ceremony where he enquired whats going on in sach's mind since everyone were discussing in the morning about his future. sachin said that he doesnt care about what XYZ think about him. :D sivaramakrishnan confirms the South Indian stereotype by being meek and poorly dressed. Interesting observations. I agree with a lot of your points. I like Ganguly's commentary too. He is confident and speaks his mind. His only problem is that he sometimes conveys wrong facts with equal confidence. Dravid is getting better. He talks about the match with focus. But he could try to be a bit more interesting.

It is highly incorrect to generalize about Asian commentators. Shastri, Ganguly, Gavaskar, Dravid, Rameez, Akhtar ( Hindi ), Akram are reasonably analytical and confident. Some of them are interesting too. On the other hand....Botham, Atherton, Ian Chappel, Dean Jones, Pat Symcox etc., to name a few, are not that good.

Aussies commentators are good? Not the new generation. Maybe only 2-3 of them. Bhogle could have been good if he spoke less. Or if he didn't become BCCI's mouthpiece. I absolutely love listening to commentators who are not cliched, are insightful and speak their mind....even if English is not their first language. If they are humble on top of that (like Benaud) even better.

I like to have a go at our commentators but when I hear those from other parts of the world I realisehow lucky we are. Windies are the best though. Very similar in style to the late great Richie. Ian Bishop, Jeff Dujon and the king of them all Michael Holding.
