Raghav_12 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I was just curious to know what RSS exactly think of Women participation in overall polity of the country. While I keep hearing statements from Bhagwat and associates on multiple things under the sun, I never heard of any RSS women leader. Out of curiosity I tried googling a bit and to my surprise I found that founder of RSS Mr. Hedgewar was against women participation in RSS. When requested for the same, he asked particular person to start a parallel organization but not allowed inclusion of females in RSS main organization. Question is today when even Indian forces include women in their ranks why RSS is not doing same? Isn't such kind of misogynist attitude is responsible for some of the issues India face with respect to gender equality? I may be wrong in my information or some of the facts. Would be happy to get corrected.
Crookbond Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Needs to be moved to the Politics thread. Al Sa-Her I will find you and kill you!
Crookbond Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I don't think women can even be part of the RSS.

asterix Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Don't RSS have its women wing' date=' Rashtriya sevika samiti[/quote'] What he meant was involvement of Women in decision making group, I think. That's a tough ask...
Malcolm Merlyn Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 What he meant was involvement of Women in decision making group' date=' I think. That's a tough ask...[/quote'] Uma Bharti/Sushma Swaraj and co. are pretty much RSS backed.

Raghav_12 Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Don't RSS have its women wing' date=' Rashtriya sevika samiti[/quote'] What I read they seem to be a parallel organization but definitely not a part of RSS. Hedgewar who founded RSS had clearly denied women membership of RSS. Probably this has something to do with the mindset RSS people believe in. They firmly believe that women are for household chores only. Following is what current head of RSS had told. 'Women meant to do household chores': another shocker from RSS chief http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/women-meant-to-do-household-chores-another-shocker-from-rss-chief-509519 With this misogynist attitude it is not surprising that RSS doesn't admit women.

In his speech, Mohan Bhagwat was criticizing the concept of marriage as a "contract" which pre-defines the roles of man and woman. He did not, I repeat, did not say that he was in favor of women being restricted to household work - his point was that this restriction is a consequence of the concept of marriage as a social contract.
G_B_ Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Lets not make this a personal attack thread on Raghav. Otherwise there will be infractions. You are free to ignore this thread and not agree with his POV.
G_B_ Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Re RSS and women. The RSS is an umbrella group of various organisations. Among them they have many women's organisations. It works better as these women's organisations can be staffed entirely by women from top to bottom. Its better than a man controlling them as head of an all absorbing RSS. With regards to the BJP, currently Varundhara Raje is CM of Rajasthan Anandiben Patel is CM of Gujarat and as people have pointed out Swaraj is foreign minister. Uma Bharati has been CM before as has Sushma Swaraj.
Tiger80 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 What I read they seem to be a parallel organization but definitely not a part of RSS. If there is only boys school or college will you call it discrimination? even if they opened a parrallel girls school? As far I know there daily activity in shakha is of exercise and considering their rural or small town background it is practical for them to have boys or girls only shakha's
BeautifulGame Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Any religion based organization will be male dominated and discriminating towards women .Becoz Religion is made to be structured as male dominated and oppressing women towards history . So not really a surprise with RSS being like that

G_B_ Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 the truth is every major organisation in India is male dominated. As Tige80 has said Communists have never in their history had any women CM. They have ruled WB, Kerala and Tripura. Its the same with most regional parties. BSP AIADMK and Trinamool despite being led by women dont really seem to have many tier 2 women leaders. A lot of women politicians are there mostly due to their connections to their family. Indira was the daughter of Nehru. Rabri Devi the wife of Lalu. Amma the mistress of MG Ramchandran. Sonia the wife of Rajiv. Very few have risen to the top such as Mamata or Mayawati without any relations.

Right from a party leader to ward member, most of the women members tend to be the wives and daughters of their predecessor. Very few women make into the top position from bottom.
G_B_ Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 in a way you have to admire Mamata Mayawati and even Sushma Swaraj Uma Bharati Patel etc. All 5 rose to the top as CM's of their states based of their own ability. Same can be said to a certain extent of Raje and Dikshit. But both came from very privileged backgrounds. Raje is the queen of one of the Rajasthan lands (Dholpur?). So she did have power prior to becoming a major part of BJP Rajasthan. In Maharashtra for example Punkaja Munde is probably going to be a major force to contend with maybe in the next 10 years. She is developing to be the first major women politician in Maharashtra state politics. Supriya Sule , I think even Pawar knows she is not capable and has decided to give her a national politics roll. But Punjaka is only in place based on the name of her father. What we need is a system whereby there are more mamatas and mayawatis and Uma bharatis that emerge all over India regardless of political party.
BeautifulGame Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 What about leftists and communists ? why are they male dominated? Left and communist don't allow women cadre in their party? I am not just talking about just leaders but about overall Ideology.
