CHENNAI: AIADMK today said that it has disbursed over Rs 7 crore as relief to families of 244 persons who allegedly committed suicide following Jayaalithaa's conviction in a graft case by a lower court last year. The AIADMK supremo was subsequently acquitted by the Karnataka High Court on May 11. "So far, Rs 7.32 crore has been given away to families of 244 persons who committed suicide and Rs two lakh to four persons towards medical treatment," a party release here said. Overall, the party has disbursed Rs 7.34 crore, it added. Party supremo J Jayalalithaa had announced a relief of Rs three lakh each to the families of the victims, while appealing to supporters not to resort to extreme steps in the wake of her sentence. This is almost like a twisted version of the movie Peepli Live, now anybody whose family member committed suicide can claim the money saying that the person died for The Mummy. Win-win for ADMK to boost up the numbers and boast that those many people gave up their lives for their love and devotion towards mummy.

I doubt this is suicide for the reason of Amma. I read about this when YSR died and you have apparently plenty of people who committed suicide. then it came out that many people who had died of natural causes or committed suicide for different reasons (i think one case was a girl rejecting him) were added to the suicide list by the congress to play the sympathy wave. I will wait for this story to unfold. Our presstitute media too should do the same. But they wont.

Its sad.The people still so much in to hero worship down south in spite of high literacy rates.
244 people would have died all over TN due to accident, natural death etc... Amma govt thinking they all died for her :wall:

I was speaking with a ADMK politician few days back and he said most people have claimed this for the compensation . The politicians supporting the claim won't mind as they will get goodwill and money themselves When people claim like this its hard for top leaders to reject as it creates bad publicity .So can't exactly blame jays for these things

i asked marathi teammate about farmer suicides sometime back.. he told there might be genuine cases , but most of the times natural deaths will also be reported as farmer suicides .. maybe someone living in maharashtar can throw some light
