MM, Regarding your above ^ post. The key to going to lunch "safely" is to have established WJ+Chopra specialist openers. We are in a big dilemma with YS and Chopra like specialist opener selection.
No, that is not the ONLY way out of it. As someone had pointed out earlier ( I think it was Coffee), Chopra's sedate 30s and 40s will be effective, ONLY if there is an attacking partner on the other side. Sehwag is missing this time. And besides, what is the Guarantee Chopra is going to even atleast as successful as he was last time ? There is no point in hoping that past stars will recreate their magic somehow. That was the reason why Sehwag wasnt even picked. I feel sorry for Rahul, he is under incredible pressure now. Having resigned from captaincy, dropped from one-dayers and now, his test spot is under the scanner. Will The Wall respond ?

Only S Clark is overrated.
Care to elaborate, MP ? How do you overrate a bowler who has 54 Test wickets from his first 11 Tests @ 20.24 ?? Glenn McGrath's first 11 Tests: 34 wickets @ 33.85 He's certainly not overrated in Australia as Lee, Tait, Johnson, Noffke and Bracken were all selected ahead of him in last night's T20. He was 12th. man.

He is overrated because i have heard people call him a "Mcgrath clone". Mcgrath had a very nice rhythmical run up and a smooth action while Clark almost drags himself to the crease and tries to bowl the cutters. I know Clark has had a great start to his career but in terms of sheer bowling ability there is a massive gulf between him and Mcgrath.

We have to play normally without any mental block that ''oh we are playing Aussies ''.If we get afraid even for once ' date='then thats it [/quote'] Riya, I can see that you are still in the days and times when we simply couldnt even compete with the Australians. Trust me, times have changed, so has the results. We were this close to beating Aus the last time we went there, no other team has ever managed to do that. We can hold our and own and better, we are good enough to dictate terms. Throw away your sense of awe and fear, and believe in our team. We will do well !

Surely, that's about the highest accolade a bowler could attract.

What's it matter how a bowler runs up or delivers ? It's what happens at the other end that counts. SC's nickname is 'Sarfraz' because his run up reminds some of Sarfraz Narwaz - a bowler who claimed 7/1 during a spell against Australia at the MCG: Cricinfo profile "On March 15, 1979 at Melbourne, he bowled a memorable spell to take nine wickets in an innings. He dismissed seven batsmen while conceding one run from 33 balls." Did it matter that he shuffled to the crease ? Max Walker and Mike Proctor were said to bowl 'off the wrong foot' but both were excellent bowlers. Malcolm Marshall was short in stature for a fast bowler and bowled very 'front on'. No need to tell you how good he was. To this point in Clark's career, there is certainly no "massive gulf" between him and McGrath. Yes, there's a difference when you compare their early careers (13 runs per wicket) but it's clearly in Clark's favour.

Fair points but remember Clark is already 32 and there isn't much room for improvement at this age while started his career at the age of 23. I would be really interested to see how Clark bowls on pitches where there isn't much bounce like the ones in sub continent. p.s Marshall was a freak. It is really hard to comprehend how he was able to bowl those big outswingers with a front on action.

Room for improvement ? He has a better bowling average than Marshall, Lillee and McGrath and you're talking improvement ? :hmmmm2:
[ MOD EDIT: KINDLY DONT INSULT ]. Dont compare him to marshall, cuz he is not even worth cleaning his shoes. that moron will get biitch slapped in subcontinent pitches.

you have brett lee highly underrated he is such a class bowler and with a bit of swing, he can be devastating what are indian batsmen gonna do when tait starts bowling bouncers at 98mph people like noffke are knocking on doors now, this guy has consistently been taking wickets at domestic level and showed he could do the same at international level in that t20 game

I think Noffke will get hammered and there are a couple of bowlers ahead of him I feel anyway. However, Tait and Lee are going to be devastating. It is SO IMPORTANT that we get off to a very good start in Melbourne. Though I have been one of his bigger critics, I feel we would be stupid to leave out Yuvraj for the 1st Test. We need to play our best 7 batsman (at the moment Yuvraj falls into that category) in the 1st Test and get off to a strong start against Australia's best pace attack (4-pronged). We can not afford to start the tour the way SRL, ENG, WIN, and many other sides of the past have started their tours. Australia's bowling attack is NOT overhyped, it is the best in the world. However, if there is 1 batting line-up in world cricket that could possibly challenge them it is ours, and our batsman better come prepared for the toughest series of their careers. Jaffer, Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar. Ganguly, Yuvraj, Dhoni all better be ready.

McGrath suggests all-pace attack to tackle India Citing Indian batsmen's susceptibility to fast bowling, McGrath urged selectors to pick an all-pace attack for Boxing Day Test. More... Melbourne, December 12:: Citing Indian batsmen's susceptibility to fast bowling, Australian great Glenn McGrath has urged the selectors to pick an all-pace attack for the first time in 16 years for the Boxing Day Test here. McGrath felt Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait were good enough to deal with the Indian line-up despite the Melbourne Cricket Ground track being reportedly a spin-friendly one. "I think the Indians handle spin bowling quite well so if there's ever an option to go in with four quicks, I think this time is a possibility," McGrath was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald. Australia is currently struggling to find a spinner to replace retired great Shane Warne after Stuart MacGill was ruled out due to injury. This has left Brad Hogg as the strongest contender for the lone spinner's spot in the team. But McGrath feels the selectors should not be too concerned and opt for a pace attack. "Australia has always gone in with a spinner, but it isn't the way it has to be," he said. "It would be pretty awesome to see Brett, Mitchell and Shaun coming in, bowling 150kmh plus, that would be something that hasn't been seen around world cricket for a long time," he added.

You are plotting for India's downfall as well :D
It's exciting to see Lee, Tait, MJ and Clark bowl against the experienced full strength Indian batting. I think it'll offer a lot of challenges to both the Aussie bowlers and Indian batsmen. I can't wait for the boxing day test match to start.
