dial_100 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 1. Sehwag 2. Jaffer 3. Tendulkar 4. Ganguly 5. Yuvraj 6. Dhoni :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Yuv, Dhoni, never played in Aus. Sehwag... wah he is going to score 1 tripple, 1 double and 4 50s there... :hysterical: congratulations Hary....... :hatsoff:to your cricketing brain...
Cricketics Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 this time selectors have selected a good outfit.. only thing sucks is that karthik is in the squad.. he should be sent back to Tamil Nadu team to help them improve in this ranji and make birth in semis rather then sending him to Aus.. Karthik won't get a game anyway unless there is some prb with Dhoni...
kumble_rocks Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Got to admit , the very fact that so many posters responded to Hari's selection , shows that he has already become a heavyweight poster in ICF. Plus he has got connections .. better be on his good side , I say ...:D
maggot_brain Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Sehwag will play for sure. Let Yuvraj warm the bench. He can come in if one of the middle order bats are injured. No Yuvraj must play in the first test. Plus he can be a useful left-arm spinner. According to Brude Yardley a left-arm spinner could be useful in Australia. Don't know cos I've never watched a game in Australia. It's going to be difficult to see where he'll fit in though. I'd go as far as saying possibly drop Dravid. His recent form hasn't been great and like Boycott said, NO-ONE is indispensable. Can't see who else can be left out. I don't really like the idea of Dravid opening, we need specialist openers, i.e. Jaffer and Sehwag. It's a tough one but based on form Dravid is the only one who hasn't performed that well relatively in the last series, Jaffer, Ganguly, Tendulkar and Laxman, and Yuvraj have all done their bit. Obviously Sehwag isn't there but like I said, two specialist openers is a must.
bunny Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Well, I am surprised nobody had anything to say against the selection of IS. That guy is gonna bleed runs in Aus. He might be one for the future, but as of now, he isn't a test bowler by any means. MP would have been better than him, Randeb would have been better than him, hell even Agarkar would have been better than him.
Cricketics Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 good that munaf is not going.. seing his fielding.. he would have been bunny of Australia crowd just like monty panesar was.. he needs more time before he comes back to the national side.

Yuvraj won't be bowling more than 10 overs anyway, so his bowling isn't a factor. His fielding is an asset but he can field as 12th man anyway.

Chaos Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 HARI i told everyone BEFORE you sehwag will be there for the tour ;)
Predator_05 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I would play VVS at No 3 . He has the best success in Australia batting at No 3. . He never batted at #3 in Australia.

When was the last time Dravid bowled in a test? Drop Dravid, bring in Yuvraj. It's that simple. Sehwag in for Karthik. As for the bowling don't know as of now. Our bowling attack will be pretty crap anyhow. It's the batsmen that could potentially win us the game, even Kumble implied as much in the 3rd test post match interview.
kumble_rocks Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 He never batted at #3 in Australia. My bad. But still feel that he should play at No 3 because he had success against Australia playing that slot . BTW , he did play at No 3 in 1999/200 in Adelaide,
dial_100 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Jaffer, VVS, Dravid, SG, SRT, Yuvi, Dhoni, IKP, Kumble, Zak, Ishant OR PS I would play these 11.. Play the bowlers suitable for conditions...

India's bowlers are much better than you give them credit for - they won a Test series in England and bowled out SA for 80. Kumble took 24 wickets @ 29 when India last toured Australia in '04 - if he can match that or even better that, India will have an excellent chance. Re; Yuvraj's bowling - it's not a factor in his selection. India will play 4 bowlers + Ganguly and Tendulkar is also capable of turning his arm over as well. Back in '04, he took crucial wickets at Adelaide as India bowled Australia out for 196 to win that test. There is no dearth of part-time bowling options in this Indian XI. If Yuvraj gets the nod, he will be picked for his batting only, and right now there are no positions in the middle order. I don't know why you are so keen on dropping Dravid. He is a very capable batsman who needs to be supported. Sure, if he does nothing at Melbourne, India can contemplate dropping him but as of right now, he is a permanent fixture in that XI.

BTW ' date=' he did play at No 3 in 1999/200 in Adelaide,[/quote'] Yes, 1 test. I like the idea of playing him at #3 though. Dravid becomes too defensive at times, especially after the fall of an early wicket (guaranteed, since Sehwag will be playing). Laxman won't waste balls and will play his shots.
Cricketics Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Sehwag might get the nod ahead of Yuvraj perhapz with his bowling too.. u never know.. Sehwag is offcourse the best part time spinner who can be used often in test cricket.. he bowled really well when we toured windies last year..

He's wimp with a strike rate of 30 or less. All the clamour when he was dropped for the ODIs, like he's untouchable or something. I just can't stand him, he's boring. Boring in interviews, boring to watch when batting.
Dooks Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Sad selection because it now means that you are selected on past glories. What about others who were in the probable 24? So what wrong did Akash Chopra do and what right did Motu do? This selection process is cr@p. I hope whoever plays - pays back the selectors faith. So what was the point of selecting the probables? We had backup openers in case Jaffer/Karthick are injured. Does this mean that Yuseless will have to sit out the first test match just for Motu? Totally, ridiculous & illogical selection of Motu. All other openers may as well go and join ICL.
