:yay: Kurosawa needs more love - new thread to open and discuss his works perhaps?
Sure will contribute .... However I watched his films a long time ago so my memory could be a little scratchy Ran is interesting as well esp. in its portrayal of war scenes. In Hollywood, you would find fancy music being played when people are getting killed and violence is glorified. In Ran, Kurosawa plays a sad theme in many of the scenes so the viewers actually feel the seriousness of war and the killings PS Below is a collection of some of the scenes 5-QaJsNGl3g

For samurai oriented movies, it's Mifune for me, and I also rate him very highly even in near-contemporary roles that call for lots of theatricality - "Rickshaw Man" is a good example. I like nakadai, but I haven't seen enough of him. There are some actors who played in a nice mix of period and contemporary roles who I do like, such as Masayuki Mori, Takashi Shimura, etc. Hard to pick one for me; even in Jap actresses, plenty of capable names there. Do you have any favs?
because of their no eyebrows makeup in samurai movies, it is hard to identify them.. :D we should start a thread for samurai movies, so that we can share the good movies titles... i also want to check out the yakuza movies in future... :--D

Yes, I think I will start such a thread now. Wrt actresses, I was actually thinking more of non-samurai films since some Jap directors made very women-centric movies (Mizoguchi, etc).

As for Sholay, as I said, it was made in a different time :P
be it a GSD in a celebrity's home a labrador in a farmhouse or a roadation mongrel on the streets at the end of the day, a dog is a dog.. some are hybrid, some are mongrel breed.. you just cant freemake a movie without permission... doesnt matter which age... it will remain a shameless freemake and a blemish on every Indian movie lover's pride.. I will respect original movie makers like K Balachander and Shyam Benegal a million times more than a industry hit freemake movie..

:hysterical: 50% he says... anyways i dont care if it is a telugu, tamil, mallu or hindi film... if i come to know if a single scene is copied, i get mad at them. whether 5% or 50%, even baahubali should not be spared.... hmmm... Sholay ****ing copied 4 western movies... the whole ****ing movie is a shameless remake... :cantstop: no wonder goras laugh at us when we say that is the greatest Indian action movie.. shameless copies... all these people need to hanged in public.. shameless remakes in the last 10-15 years "some" movies which lifted plots and scenes from hollywood movies without any permission kante - reservoir dogs murder - unfaithful Agnipath - scarface sarkar - godfather players - italain job karz - reincarnation of peter proud naina - the eye mohabattein - dead poets society josh - west side story god tussi great ho - bruce almighty awara paagal deewana - whole nine yards humraaz - perfect murder koi mil gaya - ET Ghajini - Momento Pokiri - Yojimbo, A pistol for ringo, infernal affairs this is just a small list... all these people need to murdered in daylight for bringing shame to India. This is just the incomplete Bolllywood list, imagine how long the list will be if i include south and bengali movies too :cantstop: Trivia: itseems SLB sent "Black" to some film festival and they sent him a note stating that they dont accept (shameless) copied movies without any decency to seek permission in to their festival. yes, the original plot is lifted from the miracle worker... :haha:
I haven't watched the other movies listed as they are Hindi but saying Pokiri is copied from Infernal affairs is unfair .If that's the standard for ridiculing then u could say Infernal affairs copied from Billa (or Don) . Cop going undercover isn't exactly new storyline .If the movies have ripped of the screen play of scenes then fair enough but I don't remember anything like that in Pokiri from IA Its like saying every revenge movie is copied from Hamlet

Which ever way you look at it (your PoV or mine), the point that Bahubali (the topic of this threas) is a not great film and Rajamouli acted like a copycat stands :P

Nice wit there! :two_thumbs_up: The line between what is, and isn't, plagiarism is quite a nebulous one. However, I do believe that there are quite a few works on that list which, for me, do fall under the category of plagiarism.

Kurosawa also wasn't the one who introduced flash back story telling in films ? I remember watching a few of his movies during college time :hatsoff:
Could be. In Rashomon, iirc, the story was told in flashbacks (different people giving their version of the event)

And GREATEST ever as per MY criteria. On copycats, Bahubali comes extremely low. Thanks to Temughin for enlightening the ICF posters - I was not aware of such BLATANT copies of International movies by Bollywwod films. Such a shame

The images of Jadoo were posted, RaOne discussed :winky: How the film's budget was wasted is also discussed (Detective Dee comparison) So yes, it is great if in terms of copying (haven't seen many films where every other scene is copied) and wasting resources :two_thumbs_up: And other films (Bollywood or whatever) are copies is not the point so it was a worthless exercise (as explained in terms of claims for greatness and time period) by him PS it is like the example below: A: XYZ is a thief B: ABC did that too in the year 1862 A: Currently, XYZ is in custody and this is 2015 B: So what ABC did that too A: XYZ is a thief (the point that ABC did it in 1862 does not imply that XYZ is innocent or should be pardoned. And B is agreeing that XYZ is a thief by bringing in irrelevant example of ABC who according to him was a thief too thereby proving XYZ is indeed a thief) :P

I dont even care about your opinion on this topic.. when anyone raises the topic of copying from other country's movies without permission my blood boils.. be it baahubali who has copied a few shots like picking up a spear or another scene like sitting in the midst of a waterfall from other movies or "the greatest Indian action movie" Sholay which has ripped its entire story from various spaghetti western shamelessly without seeking permission from the original makers... I will not forgive them... Iam hell bent on shaming Indian movies which have copied from various sources, dont irritate me by giving various benchmarks for copying... like i said, this is not about you.. its my inner anger on Indian copycat directors like that chewtiya Rakesh Roshan, RGV and Ramesh sippy etc... shameless morons..

Haven't seen enough movies by Ramesh "Sloppy" but the other two are definitely repeat offenders.

As long as your inner demon continues to bash Bahubali too, I am ok with it :hysterical: Like the example below: A: Pak is a terrorist state B: Ind has terrorist state too (so B is not defending Pak but accepting it by trying to draw random parallels) A: So the fact that Pak is a terrorist state stands B: Ind has shameless terrorists, etc. We should fight against terrorist everywhere, blah blah blah A: Great! So let's fight Pak :two_thumbs_up:

Ouch - Your entire rant of 100s of posts is that Bahubali copied XYZ but when someone points out that Bahubali ranks EXTREMELY low in the copied content compared to so many other Indian films, you SUDDENLY declare that is not the point? :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Entertain us more please :two_thumbs_up:

why cant India bring in legal acts to restrict the bhatts and vermas from freemaking foreign movies ? cant our directors make original stories..? actually we can.. we should force them to. we have original directors like bharadwaj, kashyap and also in south india

Of course it is not the point as no one is claiming that of the recent releases x or y is great or sets any benchmarks :P By dragging in irrelevant films, it only strengthens the case against Bahubali :hysterical: PS to simply further A: Bahubali is great B: It is a copy so how can it be great A: Ek Villian is a copy too B: So is Ek Villian great A: No B: Why? A: Because it copied for I saw the Devil B: Then how can Bahubali (a copy too) be great So A who wants to show Bahubali is great actually ended up proving it is not by bringing in Ek Villian which no one cares about

Yes, there are quite a few good ones down South.. and some of the more shameless copiers too. As for Kashyap, I will wait and see... his recent films are still original, but I've been finding the movies stale compared to earlier works (opinion is purely subjective here of course, as we aren't discussing facts in this instance).

XYZ copied a few scenes - crime - thief ABC ripped entire story and copied entire scenes from 4 different movies - crime - mass murderer, rapist and traitor A: XYZ is a thief B: XYZ is a thief and ****ing ABC is a traitor, mass murderer and rapist A: but this is 2015, ABC's case is in 1975 B: put XYZ in jail for a month, but publicly shame and hang ABC who is a ****ing traitor, mass murderer and rapist and without any shame roaming in the streets like a king... lets humiliate him A: noooooo dont do that, this is 2015 lets just punish the thief by hanging him and leave ABC alone ICF junta: wtf?
