Detonator Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh's ODI captain, was involved in a road accident in Mirpur and suffered minor injuries on Thursday. He sustained skin lacerations on both his hands and knee after a bus clipped a cycle-rickshaw on which Mashrafe was travelling, on his way to the Shere Bangla National Stadium. "When I saw the bus approaching towards my rickshaw, I jumped out in anticipation," Mashrafe said. "The tyre was broken and I tried to save my legs by diving out of the rickshaw. I am very lucky to have escaped with only some skin damage. My car was taking my child to the doctor for vaccination so I took the rickshaw to the ground. It is a 10-minute ride from my house." The police caught the offending bus driver immediately. The rickshaw-puller was unhurt while the on-duty traffic police wanted to take Mashrafe to a nearby hospital. Mashrafe opted to come to the ground where he received first-aid assistance at the BCB's medical room. He didn't take part in training and later went to a clinic near to his house where his bandages were changed. Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said that the injuries were minor. "Mashrafe was injured in a road accident while coming to the ground this morning. These are minor injuries. He has suffered lacerations on his hands and his right knee has swollen slightly. I think he will recover quickly," he said. Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurasingha said that Mashrafe will be monitored closely until the start of the ODI series against India on June 18. "This is unfortunate. We are concerned about his palm," Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurasingha told ESPNcricinfo. He used to have 135-140 medium fast in his early career with great line and length. He picked 1.5-1.6 wkts per match. Where other pacers of BD would pick less than 1 wkt per match. For his several operation in his right leg's ligament he eventually lost his pace. But still manage to be in the team with performance and good captaincy. In his prime time... He won us in 2005 Cardiff against AUS. He was not MOM but his tight first spell where he picked 1-20 in 7 overs slow down AUS opening consisting of Hayden and Gilchrist. In 2004 he was MOM against IND win. Same in 2007 WC win against IND. Also he again played great against ENG in ENG in 2010 for our 1st ever win against them. He was MOM there too. However..he has passed all those glory days. I think he will be in National team for more 2/3 years maximum.

Still odd that an international cricketer travels in that form. oh i thought he was taking a social/ help poor cause/ get in touch with fans/ rikshaw ride...this is even worse, he was commuting in a rickshaw.. dint this guy make like 600k$ in the second IPL only..that must have made him the king of Bangladesh or something...

I am always surprised at the state of many international cricketers. I expect them to be well off (and for good reasons, considering how much money they make) but their conditions are astonishing. I can't imagine why an international cricketer (also the captain of his international ODI team) can't afford another car.

He has two car(Toyota). One of the car which he drives more often had break problems. Add to that Mirpur Stadium is on walking distance from his house. So he thought lets ride a Rickshaw for a moment. That's it. I am really astonished that some of posters here really thinks that he can't afford another car. I mean obviously he may be not so rich like Indian cricketers. But still very well established and you can say high social people. Even i have a BMW. But I don't use the car for going University I study. I shall go by Rickshaw too as its very close to my house.
jf1gp_1 Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Please Mashrafe hope you are fit and can play against us. I dont want BD fans cribbing how they lost because Mashrafe was injured. Infact we should even get 2 BD umpires.
