That MS Dhoni would have been sacked as ODI captain and Virat Kohli made the new skipper back in 2012 if N Srinivasan, the then BCCI president, hadn’t vetoed an unanimous decision by the selectors. Three years after the episode, Raja Venkat, a former first-class cricketer and a national selector from East Zone between 2008-2012, has detailed the dramatic events that saved Dhoni’s captaincy. He also revealed how the selectors had felt that the team spirit had hit “rock bottom†under Dhoni and there were “factions with the team†which prompted them to seek a change in leadership.

This is not a new expose, Amarnath said this a couple of years ago. It only corroborates his story.

That is not the point. The board president should have no say in selection matters. Besides he most likely vetoed it keeping CSK's interests in mind. The selectors probably wanted Kohli to get accustomed to captaincy through ODIs and then would have moved him to tests as well. I am not arguing for or against that decisions, but the selectors' decision must be final.

Of course there were factions within the team. Any captain would face them in that period. It was time when old timers were not performing and had to be pushed out. It was around the time (a few months here and there) when guys like Gambhir, Yuvraj, Sehwag, Zaheer, Harbhajan etc were just not getting things done.

We won CT in 2013, is he crediting Srini? MS deserved to get a second shot at overseas stint with a new-look team, we improved but it wasn't enough and imo he should've been let go after England debacle itsef. More or less something similar happened anyways. I believe he should give up T20 captaincy as well and Rohit should take over.
