Rohit was beyond mediocre before he was gifted the opening slot . Why not Rahane who any had has a better allround game than Rohit ?
How Rahane has a better alround game? Yes, he is technically better but struggles in other departments, cannot rotate the strike, cannot hit big shots.

Don't understand this blind love for Rahane :idunno: Is it because he behaves like a pussy :dontknow: After getting chances after chances, he has been mediocre. Instead of discarding him, people want a successful batsman to be dropped or his batting position changed  What is this assumption that he will be better overseas ?? Is India going to play all the matches in overseas ?? We all saw what great success rahane got in ODIs in overseas

How many ODIs has he played BTW? You can give all the chances in the worl to losers like Rohit/Uthappa then why not him? Rahane has earned his right to be persisted with in ODIs

Uthappa 46, Rahane 58. Both have been failures except an innings here and there.

Rahane to be fair had a solid series in England in the ODIs as opener. This match especially proved what he is capable of http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-india-2014/engine/current/match/667727.html What Rahane needs more than anything is another opener at the other end who scores freely to spread the field. This is why maybe he is more comfortable with Dhawan than Rohit. Then he can play second fiddle to that. Rahane at 4 is a no go. Its just not going to work out. But as i mentioned with Rayadu in the other thread. I doubt you are going to win the ODI WC with players like Rahane or Rayadu. These are below average or average at best players atm who wont be good enough at the highest levels. I am afraid back up opener is the best Rahane can hope for. He does have other attributes such as being a gun fielder which India can make use of. Rahane reminds me a bit of DK. I remember DK in the champions trophy, would strike the most amazing 4 all along the ground. Then next ball play all around a straight one and get bowled. Frustrating.

Uthappa 46' date=' Rahane 58. Both have been failures except an innings here and there.[/quote'] And Rohit Sharma? Anyways, the point here is not everyone is suited for every batting position. Rahane is an opener and as an opener he likes the ball coming onto the bat initially.

Rohit has been playing quite well recently. What kind of logic is it to drop a player who is performing well and in his place give chance to another who is failing consistently ??

Rahane was given chance to open and he failed. Even against a mediocre team like Zimbabwe, he is failing. Now that we have got an opener who is playing well, why try something else :dontknow:

Rahane don't get into the ODI squad. That's all. Forget changing batting positions with Rohit. Rather look for a better No.4 in someone like Iyer

Rahane is going to be our clutch player, especially overseas and against better bowling attacks in trying conditions. He's already proved it in tests. Its foolish to discard him in favor of ftbs like Rohit Sharma etc.

Rohit Sharma had MOS even before he had started opening in 2011.

How many full series has Rahane played actually? HE has been the fall guy whenever someone had to be dropped. Even in Tests, I am sure he would have been dropped had he failed early in his test career.

Rahane has opened in 37 innings (not just 3) and has been mediocre...

Even in Tests' date=' I am sure he would have been dropped had he failed early in his test career.[/quote'] He has played all the matches in most of his series with just a few exceptions. At http://howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerSeries_ODI.asp?PlayerID=3889 it shows how many matches he played in each series and if you compare that with the total matches in that series (you just have to click the series name and it will tell you how many matches there were in that series) it is mostly the same.

Only made coz GG, Viru, Yuvraj are out and SRt retired.
