PSB_Zone Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Since we all know that Rahane isa fluent stroke maker specially when ball comes on to bat.It wont be a bad idea for him to pen with dhawan and move rohit sharma to no. 4 and with no power plays now India can even afford to play with 7 batsman.i know yuvraj is way past is best but still he is gud enuf 7th batsman and a descent 5th bowler along with raina.. Yuvraj or some batting allrounder in that place is another matter but surely rahane should open to give more stability and sharma to give more power to the middle order... What say guys? bihutoli Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I think having Rahane opening is a good move. This position seems most suited for him. He's shown adaptability and an urgency to up his strikerate, and has a much better defensive technique to deal with the new ball (even in conditions where the ball moves around a bit). Rohit should be shown the door.

After opening Rohit became a brilliant ODI batsman. However Rahane played as an opener many times before (in 36 innings) but his record in that batting position is still mediocre. So I would not risk putting Rohit at #4 (which may lead to Rohit being ineffective at that position) for a batsman that is mediocre at all batting positions.
G_B_ Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 the problem for rahane is that he fails to rotate the strike in odis and gets bogged down. He needs to improve his singles game. On paper he does have the game for the ODIs as an opener. But he cant do that with India. He needs to go away and look to build a game around taking singles on nearly every ball he faces. You can have a strike rate overall in his career in the 70s at a time when every opener 80 plus is the bare minimum.

See how Iyer goes a few come seasons , if he does well continuously replace Rahane as back up opener with him. The problem with Rohit is sort of the same as Rahane in the first few overs. Dot dot dot 4, no singles. Rohit has the capability to make it up. Rahane does not have that. while shkikar dhawan fails as an opener is on green seamers. Thats where maybe a Rahane comes in . At a time when you need to block out the new ball Rahane can be handy. Where Rahane is a liability is on pitches which are flat where scoring needs to be brisk. But if the pitch is a green mamba, i would have Rahane in there to just see off the new ball. It protects our lower order. Every team needs atleast one Rahane like option in the squad.

He did very well when he was given the opportunitu last time around.. he cannot take singles.....he have to develop him game for one day's......just like rahul did it in the later half of his career
