Completely agree. Religion is the worst thing to happen to mankind. It has been the reason for most number of massacres. Should be banned in the whole world.
If religion is not there, we will find other reasons to kill each other. In the 20th century, I guess more people were killed because of nationalism, political philosophies and racism. In 21st, it could be something else (incl religion). Humans are like this only. Motive is not the thing to blame.

IMO religions itself should be banned. If God does exist then it would be one God who has created the universe and us. Do you think that there are different type of gods (according to religion) assigned to take care of different groups according to their belief.
Why should it be one God ? Why can't there be 20 Gods or 100 Gods ? Why can't it be a group of Gods that created the universe ? Or there could be a committee that chooses a new God every year.

But in the last 50 yrs how many wars have been fought on nationalism name alone without any reference to religion? Especially now that we have most of the world powers having nuclear power deterrent, I highly doubt there will be full scale warfare - add to that economic interdependence. But religion finds a way to make even friends fight each other. With other causes, you'd always expect people to give up at some time and enter into some sort of agreement - wars always end when started on causes like nationalism and all that, one way or the other. But with religion, it never ends.

More :hatsoff: to Nepal... Considering that the small Kingdom country depends mostly on Tourism and Foreign Aid, the decision is more praiseworthy...

Personally, I think religion is just a facade to rile up people - the real reason for killing people is "power".

I wrote that post because Debutant seemed to think that the world will become a peaceful place once religion is banned. I don't have much love for religion, so broadly agree with your points. But still not optimistic that things would improve a great deal even if there are no religions.

^ Nobody has problem with other religions, its only one particular religion which is creating all the problems in the world. The world would definitely have been more peaceful had that religion never existed.

The world u experience consists of dualities..positive and negative, good and bad, tall and short ,secularism an communalism and so on.So as long as peace exists in this world ,violence will be there.

Peace for someone in Afghanistan could be a week without bombing Peace for a soldier in a war zone is 5 mins of no firing Peace for a bank clerk in Bikaner could be 15 mins of afternoon siesta Peace for a 70 yr old is a morning without constipation I think here we are purely looking at avoiding human vs human conflict resulting in loss of lives over trivial reasons. Trivial as in the sense that such a conflict is never going to make things better from status quo. Conflicts that are driven by beliefs, egos , greed than survival.
