HouMac
Whatever the regression in pitches, grounds and bowling; one thing that shouldn't be denied is that Ponting is significantly superior to Tendulkar in terms of consistency and big match play. The latter especially. He's a pressure performer w/o peer. Also, not since the Bradman era has there been such a huge difference between the best(Ponting) and 2nd best(whoever that guy is). When he's done I'll be very surprised if Ponting isn't universally recognized as a better batsman than both SRT and Lara. For one he'll have better numbers and the intangibles will be on his side too(winning, clutch play and his team's dominance under his leadership). Link to comment
putrevus
So it means you obviously didn't watch Sachin bat in the ODIs vs SA at Belfast, vs England in England, and vs Pak in India. And I don't think 90s are much worse score than 100 anyway. Those 99s and 90s in england were not dominating innings , He used win ODI matches on his own that is not case any more.In 2003 worldcup also he didnt score 100s but they way he batted it demoralized opposition bowlers the same thing which ponting is doing now. The Outsider
Bossbhai, can you tell us how many times Tendulkar has featured in sub 150, 175, and 225 chases and how many times Ponting has done so? Link to comment
The Outsider
Also, not since the Bradman era has there been such a huge difference between the best(Ponting) and 2nd best(whoever that guy is). Check up the ICC rankings. There is a surfeit of batsmen with 875+ points all within shooting distance of Ponting and have been for quite some time now. Link to comment
Bumper
Ponting and a lot of other pretenders have feasted on weak bowling attacks, flatter pitches, and shorter boundaries over the past few years. Tendulkar is a great ODI batsman, but so is Ponting. If he is a pretender, i dont know who can be a contender ? Ponting not able to navigate quality bowling attacks is a myth. Ponting's Test averages are terrific against Pakistan & South Africa, the two best bowling attacks of his times. Infact they are better than most modern day batsmen's including Tendulkar's. Even in ODIs, Ponting's averages vs Pak & SA are better than Tendulkar's. If you bother with their head-to-head stats, its even more revealing. Ponting has 100s everywhere & has done atleast as well as Tendulkar in places that mattered. Tendulkar is yet to score a 100 in Australia in 35 attempts. Ponting's Test averages are terrific against Pakistan & South Africa, the two best bowling attacks of his times. Infact they are better than most modern day batsmen's including Tendulkar's. What was Ponting's record against Walsh, Ambrose, Donald and Pollock at the top of their game? It's like saying if by the time Ponting visits the next time and Kumble has retired and he manages to smash a couple of double centuries against Murali Kartik, he will all of a sudden become a superb player of quality spin in India when we all know he can't even a buy a run against Kumble/Harbhajan in Indian conditions. If you bother with their head-to-head stats, its even more revealing. Ponting has 100s everywhere & has done atleast as well as Tendulkar in places that mattered. Tendulkar is yet to score a 100 in Australia in 35 attempts. I would advise you to stay clear of head to head stats vis a vis Tendulkar and Ponting. All I need to do is say, "Ponting in India" as far as Tests are concerned to kill all arguments. Link to comment

What is a dominating inning then? 100 in 17 deliveries? If the opposition didn't get demoralised despite these onslaught, you should give credit to those young bowlers. And the less I say about those innings in Belfast in bowler friendly condition the better. If a man who is past his best, according to you, is scoring like this, shouldn't you be happy? I'm ecstatic that one of my batsman who is on his decline according to many experts, is scorong like this. What else do you expect from Sachin? Link to comment

The Outsider
Dont have ODI stats proff ... Oh damn!! Forgot! Let's see if I can find some time to manually do it over the next couple of days to drive another nail in the coffin. Link to comment
The Outsider
Ponting is a great ODI batsman, but Tendulkar is a legend with only Richards up there for a fair comparison. PS : Since we talking ODIs here, why has anyone not mentioned the gulf between Ponting and Tendulkar's SRs yet. Link to comment
Online
Thanks also for informing me that these matches were played with only Tendulkar and Ponting in their respective teams. Point noted. hahaha awesome reply shwetabh :hysterical: pure ownage Link to comment

jf1gp_1
Allan border good batsman, great leader, has scored more runs than Sunil Gavaskar, similar average could bowl a bit yet when everyone talks about cricket legends no list is complete without Mr Gavaskar cant say the same about Border. Same way Ponting vs Sachin ..blah...blah...blah..... bottom line Sachin is a far superior batsman and if one cant see it then stop watching cricket. Link to comment

Guest HariSampath
Ricky Pontings ODI performances in SA, NZ , Eng, SL,and Pak in those countries Vs SA in SA : 57.33 ( Sachin : 26.10) Vs NZ in NZ : 58.33 ( Sachin : 27.20) Vs Pak in Pak : 97.50 ( Sachin : 36.92) Vs Eng in Eng : 45.80 ( Sachin 39.93) Against SL in SL : 43.66 ( Sachin 42.00 ) Compared with Sachin's avg in these conditions against SAME teams... this is a joke..Ponting FAR OUTSCORES Sachin in NZ, in SA, in SL, in Pak, in Eng AND almost equals Sachin IN INDIA too...LOL Link to comment
Guest HariSampath
Ponting's average against India IN India in ODIs.....45.00 ( higher than Tendulkar's career ODI avg) LOL LOL...and Sachin's BEST home performances avg 46.12 and Ponting's so called "worst: against India in India"..avg 45..Lol... NO diff...but just compare Ponting in Aus and Sachin in Aus.
