Same car for 7-8 yearsssss !!! The only thing i have had constant in my life for so long is my family.

Lets say avg 12000 miles per year. Modern cars/vans/SUVs can easily last 100k miles (actually more) with good maintenance. 7 years is only like 84,000 miles on your vehicle! Thats not much. I'm not saying you should keep it for 7 years. BUT - if you are worried abt "car value dropping in 1st year if you buy it new" etc, I meant to say that if you hold it longer then you dont need to worry abt such value dropping issues too much. @Apo: I dont mind 84k miles as long as the car is running fine, and i know i have taken good care of the vehicle.

Leasing is the best option if you don't want to keep a car long term, say less than 3 years. All the benefits of a new car including warranty etc. and the depreciation and interest more than makes up for the leasing cost. Of course, the option to replace cars frequently.

From all your elaborate calculations, it seems as though, for you, a car is a just a vehicle to get from point A to B, and if required go back to A. You would be surprised to know many people dont see their cars not just as an instrument of transportation, but also a part of their life-style, an expression of their style, taste in life. For them, having a car for a prolonged period of time means their life is stagnating, their tastes deteriorating.

I dont have a dawg at all. I had jokingly commented once that even my dawg would be able to select a better super selector team than me, and Apo has been on it ever since. :D

Ok guys, I need to buy a car VERY soon. Any ideas ? I have absolutely no idea of whats a good car/bad car, whats a good price for bad car or a bad price for a good car. As much as i would like to buy a convertible for 40K, my overflowing finances mean that i would probably end up buying a second/third hand toyota for 7K.

Here's a thumb rule Sriram. If you are willing to spend about 10K, give or take a couple (that means 8K-12 K ON ROAD) then go for Civic or Corrola. If you are willing to spend 15K,give or take a couple(13-17) then go for Accord or Camry. Toyota Corrola is a pretty good car. Specially for a single person. Honda Civic is pretty good as well but would be just a shade expensive(about 1 K). The deal with second hand car is that you have to know your cars or else you will be caught with your pants down. Depending on how good you know cars, or know someone who does, spend your money. My first car was a Ford Tempo. Got it for 1200 dollars. Was pretty pathetic but served me well for 2 years. Basically what I am saying is that if you havent bought a car before dont get all proud and jump into 8-10 K figure. There is no harm in buying a car worth say 3-4 and get to know how cars work. Of course if you are comfy then by all means go with 7K number. xxxx

This is pretty strange, every now and then I want to buy a new car and I stick to my Camry. I just love the car but I don't wan to buy a Camry again, this confusion is being going around since last year I am a "new car always" type of guy, but I luckily got a nice Camry so except oil changes, it never even gave me a flat tire yet My next would be either be a Infiniti, VW or BMW 3 Series

Are u guys telling even carafax report and check by some some garage mehcanic is no ticket against ending up with lemon if u go for used car.. sala Camry 2007 ka mere ko $20000 bol raha hai with 30000 km on it.. what kind of deal is this good or bad??
