bulbul
This is heartbreaking [if true] Live: 14 patients die in a Chennai private hospital allegedly due to power and oxygen failure Sources say that the incident happened as the generator was in the basement which was flooded. Doctors had an idea that the water level was going up and generator will go off. It was also discussed that patients on ventilator and critical care (17+1) can be air lifted. But it was not considered to be a viable solution as many had TB and other ailments and wouldn't be able to withstand that rescue. Everybody knew the end was coming. http://www.ibnlive.com/news/india/live-no-rains-overnight-but-chennai-residents-continue-to-grapple-with-power-cuts-drinking-water-and-food-scarcity-1172310.html Edited December 4, 2015 by bulbul

Book_Worm
There is a reason why Dravidian parties used to say that they are not Indians. When north Indian English media ignores such tragedy, you wonder if they were right. Bloody media people were having discussions on Amir khan. Don't divide . It is not about north and south. The first time rains hit the city it did get coverage all over media it just was'nt main news nor was it 27/7 as most media was covering paris shooting. It wasn't just north indian media even here in hyderabad the coverage the first week was less because the situation was'nt that bad. Now this whole week the coverage is extensive. Also english media thinks it is national media it isn't it is very much elitist and focuss more on bollywood/cricket combo, mumbai/delhi cullture and region and also it very much obsessed with pakistan. If these floods had happend in bengal, assam, oriya goa etc the coverage would be the same. vvvslaxman
Odisha sent 10 NDRF units. with a combined operation with other NDRF units they have saved over 10000 lives, supplied foods to thousands of people. Thank you Odisha. Bihar has announced 5 crores. Even though news coverage is blatantly negligent, India is coming together which is heartening to say in the day and age of heavy polarization due to politically driven mundane issues. amiret
18 People die in the WORST Pvt hospital in Chennai - MIOT : Initial reports said the patients were all critical and on life support at MIOT hospital. Relatives of the patients claimed that the critical care systems at the hospital failed owing to lack of power caused by heavy flooding of the premises over the last few days. Managing director of the hospital Prithvi Mohandoss said flooding was caused by the breaching of the nearby Adyar river. Its waters pounded through a wall and inundated the premises. "This occurred on Tuesday night. We immediately shifted all 30 patients to the main Cancer block. By Wednesday morning, we had no power, the generator sets were completely damaged in the rain and nothing was working -- ventilators, monitors or equipment. We tried our best with manual support but lost 14 patients," he said. Other hospitals have faced similar situation but they are not revealing their fatalities . This hospital would have done the same too but the relatives informed the media.

Angry relatives thronged the MIOT hospital, accusing officials of negligence and hiding the news of the deaths for several hours.“Vadivelan met with accident on Sunday at Puducherry. We immediately brought him to MIOT thinking it’s the best hospital,” said Prakash T, a relative of the 34-year-old victim. “They did not admit him until we paid Rs 2 lakh. Yesterday, they made us pay Rs 5.5 lakh saying it’s an emergency. Only after we paid did they tell us that the emergency was that Vadivelan had died.”

amiret
modi Govt issues sorry excuse for their self-serving Propaganda photoshop :The Press Information Bureau of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting issued a statement on Friday regretting the 'inconvenience caused' by the 'merging of two pictures' it had shared a day earlier of Prime Minister Modi visiting flood-hit areas of Chennai."Pictures of Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi undertaking the aerial survey of flood affected areas of Tamil Nadu were released on PIB Twitter Handle and PIB's website last evening," the statement read. At least they did not claim Rambo single-handedly rescued 18,000 people from the floods like they boasted during the Uttarakhand floods in 2013 . amiret
Chairman of hospital confesses that they did not inform the relatives of the patients of their terrible plight to protect their own sorry a$$ :Chairman of MIOT, PVA Mohandas told The Hindu that the hospital was entirely cut off from the rest of the city. “We could not inform relatives as we did not want a riot-like situation in the hospital where there was no food and the water levels were rising. The phone lines were also down.” Chief Secretary K. Gnanadesikan placed the blame entirely on the hospital. “It’s the responsibility of a big hospital like MIOT to have adequate power supply, power generator. The management had completely abandoned the patients, and the law will now take its own course. Only in India ; If this is not criminal negligence ... How could doctors abandon their critically ill patients ? We are talking about a large Multi-hundred Crore hospital . The doctors were not facing any immediate threat to their lives. the water had only reached the ground floor ! One family member recounted :" His relative met with an accident . They did not admit him until we paid Rs 2 lakh. Yesterday, they made us pay Rs 5.5 lakh saying it’s an emergency. Only after we paid did they tell us the emergency was that Vadivelan had died.” Lies and Extortion ?
