Chanders has been in amazing form since Lara's retirement. He has become an absolute behemoth and an immovable object ever since that series in England. He averages a staggering 103 in the last 10 tests against England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia. I would like to see him come at 4 and not 5 though given his rich vein of form. No' date=' he won't.[/quote'] Why is that? He entered into what is considered to be the prime of a batsman's career last year. And given the way he has batted, it's sure to last a few more series. He is inching towards the hallowed average of 50+ and closing in on 20 tons.

He won't because the Windies top 10 includes titans like Sobers, Richards, Headley, Lara, Lloyd, Kanhai, Kallicharan, Weekes, Worrell, Greenidge. Chanderpaul can't be compared to any of them. He is probably the best West Indies batsman of this decade, but that isn't saying much. In terms of class, i'd say he is more comparable to batsmen like Richardson, Hooper as opposed to someone like Lara. No shame in that.

Can VVS crack into the Indian top 10 test batsmen of all time?
It's a close call. He would definitely make my top 10 because he has played a lot of his best innings against good bowling attacks away from home and his exquisite strokeplay is on par with or possibly even better than that of any other great batsman India has produced bar Tendulkar and Gavaskar, of course

Laxman would certainly make my top 10. Tendulkar, Dravid, Hazare, and Gavaskar would be the only clear cut contenders above him with Sehwag joining them probably by the end of his career. Azharuddin, Viswanath, and Amarnath would probably be at par with Laxman with Laxman and Azhar probably the first and second among equals and Vengsarkar, Ganguly, Umrigar, V Manjrekar would surely fall short.

Good for Chandrapaul. Of all the guys in top 10 he is the one I would like in my team to have when chips are down. His record should shame all the Good-for-Nothings that keep on piling 50 plus averages these days. Here is 1guy I wouldnt mind if he racks up 55, or even 60 average.
