If you say 'desi?' to a south Indian, he will probably reply 'No Saar, it's Dosa'. ;)

Getting back to the topic, pak and bd people detest even hate being called desi knowing what desi means and how it is often used by Indians with a pathetic hope of getting a friendly response from pak people who just piss on this hope every single time. They are pakistani, and bangladeshi ( some are ok with bengali but not desi), and its understandably so. Desi in what sense, which desh ? akand barath lol. Edited April 6, 2016 by Vilander

And thnx for the second part as I wouldn't know how a Paki or Bangladeshi reacts to being called a desi as I have no experience. I guess many don't mind or care as well. I am not particularly fond of this term btw but for different reason (it's not part of any region's lingo aside from Punjab I think, neither does it sound good or accurate). I prefer 'Indian' , 'South Asian' etc to be used in this context.

BD is different i have seen/read them ( at the cost of being naively anecdotal ) and trust that they have affinity to bengali identity, which if nurtured could mean that they wont hate us, they might want legal immigration and work hard once they will come to India, remit back to their country and pay tax to india, they might have non radical regimes for a few years and root out islamic radicalization after petro dollars wane..etc but Pak they will find a way to be anti india ( now if no US/Saudi - then China - if not china they will find someone else)they want land ( kashmir, junagadh,UP etc..they want resources from India, they want to rule Delhi. They are not friends, but we should respect them and study them and ensure they are stopped.

Yeah...and let us use 'desi' only to refer to anda (egg), ghee or the rustic quality, like it was meant to be. ;)
