Eranga's bowling action ruled illegal

On the same day that Sri Lanka fast bowler Shaminda Eranga was hospitalised for experiencing an elevated heartbeat, he was also suspended from bowling in international cricket for an illegal action.

Eranga was reported for a suspect action after the second Test against England at Chester-le-Street in May. He was evaluated at Loughborough on June 6 and results showed his elbow exceeded the permitted 15 degrees of flex in all of his deliveries.

The ICC allows a bowler suspected of an illegal action to continue playing international cricket until the results of biomechanical testing on his bowling action are released. Hence, Eranga was able to take part in the third Test against England at Lord's. He opened the bowling in both innings and picked up a match haul of 4 for 152.

Another Lankan bites the dust.Why do they have so many chuckers?

Just a few years ago there was an article by a SL journo crowing about how "unorthodox actions" are allowed space to flourish in SL cricket citing Malinga, Mendis etc.  This is the flip side of the same coin.  

 

I love the crackdown on chucking - long overdue.  And don't mind if Indian bowlers are caught as well.
