One has to wonder why suddenly, Pakistanis started looking at China objectively? I thought they should be happy that China is not questioning Pakistan sponsored terrorism
G_B_ Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 See the thing is, China needs a safe passage for the oil to reach them without having to pass through the strait of malacca. Some 25-30% of oil now comes to China via a direct land route (mostly via russia and Kazakhstan) and its rising rapidly. There might arise a situation in the future where Russia provides 50% of Chinese oil imports. There is talk of Mynamar being a major supplier to china. Its the same reason why America detached from the middle east. Imports from China Venezuela and Mexico meant they did not need safe passage of oil from the middle east. Sure USA has not totally left the region but they are not as active. Gwadar for China will be the same. If Russia provides most of Chinese oil I think Gwadar though still strategically important has a much reduced role. That CPEC all of a sudden seems to be an over the top operation.
