why is this wrist spinning art playing prominent role in world cricket? why only now?

Why only now....from last few years? Probably 10 years back, this art almost died but now every single country (including Afghanistan) are reviving this art and plenty of opportunities are given for this spinners? Also, these spinners are mostly successful as well?

Most of the countries had before too. South Africa too does not have anyone. Tahir is a Pakistani import, cannot call him South African.

Wrist spin is a difficult art to practice. Needs a lot of patience and skill to impart revolutions to the ball using wrists, off spin on the other hand uses fingers to impart revolutions, making it relatively easier to practice than wrist spin. But the privilege that a wrist spinner has over off spin is that of having more variety.

 

One reason why wrist spin is becoming popular now could be that the game has become too power based and less skill based (with better cricket equipment), as a result while players have improved their power hitting, range of shots and split second decision making, they've also ended up compromising over traditional skill based approach, a shortcoming which wrist spinners can exploit.
